This is the general way HFDS leagues work:

  1. Show up at the course of your choice just before, or during published tee-off times.
  2. Find the LD (league director) and tell them you want to play in league.
  3. Pay your league fees, HFDS membership (optionally), Ace Pot & Mulligan (optional). HFDS returns 60% of the league fees back in winnings, with the remainder used by the club to promote disc sports!
  4. Ask one of our friendly players if you can play on their card
  5. Keep your score on the “card”, add it all up, put your name, division and date on it and turn it in. (If you don’t finish the round, your scores won’t count for that week, and no points are awarded.)
  6. The LD will produce a spreadsheet after each week of play showing the standings
  7. The week after the end of the league, is “Awards Day” where all players are awarded their “winnings”. HFDS will pay out the top 1/3 in Gold division in cash, and the top 50% of the rest of the divisions in merchandise!
  8. If you’ve placed in the top half of your division, you will win an award based on the number of players in your division and your final standing. Gold players can optionally play for cash but only the top third of the Gold division gets awarded.
  9. We sometimes hold several contests such as a Putting contest, and CTP’s
(closest to pin) where a player can win awards too!
  10. One of our fellow club members brings a large selection of new discs and other merchandise which you can “purchase” using your award money. If you wish, you can also purchase extra merchandise from the club supplier for substantially discounted prices!
  11. HFDS will track your league scores, and based on the best 75% of them, will calculate your player rating and assign you to an appropriate division from then on...keep in mind however, that a player can always (at their option) play upwards in a division if they seek stronger competition or actual cash payout.
  12. Ace Pots are tracked and accumulated by course. Join the league and pay for the Ace Pot prior to your week of play, then hit an Ace during competition and the Course Ace Pot is yours! (All aces during any one week of league split the pot). Course Ace Pots are capped at $500, and a second pot is started. You do not need to be an HFDS member, but you must join the league and pay for the Ace Pot each week prior to your round.
  13. A Mulligan can be purchased prior to your week of play. Turn it in anytime during the round to your fellow players, and you get to do that shot over!

Although it isn’t mandatory, we highly encourage players to join the HFDS club to help us to continue to promote the sport of disc golf in Houston and in Texas!!! The HFDS efforts are what has gotten all of the disc golf courses here installed, and we want to continue to see new and we want to continue to see new courses installed and existing courses improved.
