The Houston Flying Disc Society was formed in 1991 to promote disc sports throughout Greater Houston and began working with the Houston Parks and Recreation and Harris county parks departments to get permanent disc golf courses installed.

How does the sport of disc golf benefit from HFDS?
We have 18 disc golf courses in the Houston area! We annually host the Texas States Disc Golf Championship where the best disc golfer in Texas is crowned every year. Our leagues generate entire crops of new upcoming star players! Houston players have done a fabulous job of hosting the 2002 Pro World Disc Golf Championship and in setting the standard for professionally run tournaments. Every year, the Houston club is one of the tops in the nation in raising money for charity in its annual Ice Bowl events. HFDS club members are running for elected offices of the PDGA, WFDF and are leading the forefront in its support of the PDGA.
