Spring Valley Spectacular is this weekend...

Spring Valley Spectacular is this Saturday! All details can be found on the birdshot-dgproshop website. $700 added to the Payout! Southern Star Awards and Down the Hill CTPs! Online registration closes tomorrow evening but day of will be offered ($5 late reg fee) or you can go by the pro shop and register. 7 NEW pin placements are in the ground!

Tomorrow bring your own partner doubles at Spring Valley. If you're signed up for the Spring Valley Spectacular NO GREEN FEES for doubles. If you're not signed up for The Spring Valley Spectacular your green fees go to support the Spectacular. *Registration for SVS VI is available at the Pro Shop if your there to play doubles*

$20 bucks a team, 2 divisions Open and AM. Open pays cash for 30 % of the field and AM pays merchandise from the pro shop for 50% of the field. Flex Start 3 - 5 PM. Once a card of 4 is formed, it is sent out on to the course.

Doubles Payout WILL NOT be distributed until after the second round of the Spring Valley Spectacular (It might be ready by the start of the tournament but there is still some last minute things to do), so we'll say after the 2nd round. Since payout is NOT distributed until the after The Spring Valley Spectacular you must turn the score cards into the Pro shop as soon as ya’ll finish the round.

Wow. Great payout. Nearly $800 added, and basically every division was paid out at ~150% of the amount paid in. Looks like they planned it at $800 added, but due to rounding to even dollar amounts it came out to $795. Not bad considering the flyer advertised $500 and that was upped to $700 on the message board a few days before the event. Plus no greens fees on Saturday or Friday. Well done Birdshot & DG Pro Shop.

Thanks for listening to the criticism over the last year and turning that around.

Also were there two different layouts? Looks like scores were much lower the second round.

First round: new long pins on #4, 7, 9, 10, 14, 15, and 17... 5385', SSA ~= 52.14.
Second round: traditional pins... 4932', SSA ~= 48.70.

The first thing I realized this weekemd is that I play pretty bad on the original pins compared to most other ccourses....I average MAYBE -5 out there which would be below 1000...according to the SSA Saturday.

Pretty sure my average rating would be 20pts higher when using the new pins.....this is due to both better scoring separation amongst the field and the fact that I am better at throwing a 300ft+ tight hole than one that is only 240.

Because of this I would have preferred to play the longs both rounds or at least a few Power 9 holes to increase the variety of shots.....not because I don't like the Finesse but I really enjoy the new pins and (when possible) the Power 9.

With that said the payout was very good for a "C" tier with a total entry <$60 which saved my butt for the weekend after shooting my lowest rated round of the year....which I thought would be rated a little higher as I expected the SSA to be around 49-50 the second round.

Hope I didn't sound like Avery.....I like most of the holes they just don't seem to like me.

SSA for the short/traditional pins in Sep-2008 was 50.5 & 51.0.
Last year Jun-2011 it was 51.0.
I guess trees coming down on #4 & #8 have had something to do with the 48.7 that was played this past weekend.
