Conduct Unbecomming

When I first got involved in "organized" disc golf, I was very passionate about what I believed and felt. I used to get caught up in the drama that gets laid out on this message board. I would rant at those who came off wrong to me, or verbally did wrong by those I considered to be friends. I recall many a time in which Sue Mac and myself got into it on this message board. I would defend the Birdshot boys and she would slam them. Eventually, I got so fed up with the argument, I paid for her to get into a Birdshot tournament, and now she is a regular participant at their events. What's the point?
I accomplished more by proper example than I ever did through vigorous jaw jacking on this board.
I keep up with the boards as the president of the North Side Chain Gang, and I still comment, although it is FAR less frequently than it used to be. However, I don't take the time to get as wrapped up in the content as I used to. Mainly because I have learned that it is not worth it. You don't TALK your way to better scores, you get off your butt, and go practice and play.
Recently, a NSCG member has been vocal in the defense of another member who is also an HFDS member. While his efforts are admirable, his content has not been. NSCG does not condone the comments made, and reminds NSCG AND HFDS that there are more than just "our people" checking out this board. I know it has been said before, and I'm sure that there will continue to be the spats that there have been on here, but please use your head before using your mouth.
I think it is important to remind us all, no matter what your affiliation, that BECAUSE you are affiliated with a club, your actions not only reflect on yourself, but your club as well. There are a great many people who will not join clubs because of individuals that put a black eye on the club. In the words of Scott Ian, "I don't intend to offend, I just offend with my intent." I honestly feel that this is the problem with this board.
As a result, as the president of NSCG, and after consulting with the officers of NSCG, we have come to the conclusion that NSCG will take official club action against ANY club member who ABUSES this forum or OUR forum on Discgolfersr.us.
I call on ALL NSCG members to remember what we discussed in our charter regarding ethics and CONDUCT when it comes to membership. We have worked too hard as a club, and done too much good as a club to allow ignorance to derail all the hours we have put in.
On behalf of NSCG, and as the President of the club, I personally apologize for ANY NSCG member who has made ANY offensive remarks on this board, and would also like to thank HFDS for providing us our own thread as there is obviously some interest in what we have done, are doing, and will soon do.
I would also like to remind people of another thing, Juniors are the future of our sport. In the Houston area, we have some juniors that are more than capable of getting on these sites. My son will soon be one of them. I for one as a parent would be appalled at some of the content that has recently shown up on this forum from several parties. If my son was trying to convince me that this was what he wanted HIS sport to be, this board would NOT help his case. I have played Houston and countrywide disc golf for years now, and the attitudes expressed on this board are NOT what I see from individuals on Houston Courses for the most part. But to the rookies, it won't matter. To the pros, ALL OF YOU, YOU are the leaders of this sport, and the people that our Juniors will aspire to be one day. Sites like this and others, are where the kids will go to feel "closer" to the pros and further spur their interest in the sport. If you contribute to the trash that gets spread, then are you really furthering the cause?
Should this board be a place to criticize? Sure. Debate? Sure. Praise? Sure. But speaking educatedly on topics lends credibility to the speaker. Decorum is what we are getting at here. NSCG members WILL be judged by their club peers based on their actions, as the charter states. Your comments are part of that action. Please, let's use better judgment than what has been shown by MANY parties over the last few weeks here. Thank you.

I'm in agreement, Prez Blue. Public forum is not the place for filth. I'm not sure if it's in place, but it seems like, at one time, you could be banned from the board for that stuff. I know they'll ban you from the PDGA board. As president of the HFDS back in '99, when there were tensions betweens clubs and TDs from overlapping schedules (which prompted the founding of the LSDGA), I had to be the diplomat and send out a disclaimer or two, myself, because of thing said by a member, so I know where you're coming from. Hey, nice Scott Ian/John Bush quote. :D
