Re: abandoned courses
Only did a quick glance at the Master Plan but here are a couple of quick comments.
Total participants: 1813 (out of a city of how many?)
Not even the person that put together the survey is going to make an arguement that the results are very significant.
Page 151 refers to participating in a City Frisbee Golf PROGRAM. It doesn't say playing golf. I think those are two very different things. Depending on what a "City Frisbee Golf Program" is, there is a chance a lot of us regular players may not be interested in it.
Page 157: Compare the numbers there to the results for Softball. They are not dramatically different and there are a hell of a lot more softball players in the city of Houston than there are disc golfers.
Also, someone here mentioned jogging trails and dog parks. People in those two groups also vastly out number disc golfers.
I know that we all think that disc golf is the greatest thing ever but unfortunately not everyone that knows what it is agrees and most people have still never even heard of it. So, these results should not be surprising to anyone.
Are there things we could/should do to increase public awareness and opinion of disc golf? Certainly, but that's a whole other discussion.
One more comment because I just can't resist. "Informing the uninformed" and "putting new people in their place" are not the same thing.
