I respectfully request that you do not associate a 'design contest' with Texas State Disc Golf Championship. Design contests may seem like a good way to get free design work but they belittle the professional value that a graphic designer can bring to an event like this. The American Institute of Graphic Arts and the Graphic Artists Guild both recommend that their members not participate in these sorts of 'contests.' As someone who worked for many years as a graphic designer I feel that this contest will not benefit the event.
The local disc golf community has a number of very talented artists who would be more than happy to develop a logo, possibly even as a pro-bono project. You would not ask t-shirt screen printers to 'compete' with their labor so why show designers disrespect for their skills?
Instead of belittling the work of all who submit their design effort in a 'contest,' please put out an RFP for a pro-bono project. Please visit this site for more information: http://www.no-spec.com/design-contests/
