Re: The first Tuesday of every month!
The following is my summary of the last night's (July 7, 2009) meeting:
(1) Old Business: (a) reviewed the club financial statement
(2) New Business:
(a) Sponsorship. By vote, the club approved sponsorship for the Spring Valley Spectacular Tournament, in the amount of $250, and sponsorship for the Eberly Ranch Tournament in the amount of $100. Prior to the vote, there was some discussion of whether tournament sponsorship was within the scope of the purpose of HFDS and desired by the club membership, and it was discussed that these two sponsorships meet the objectives described in the club's charter:
i. To develop disc golf activities for our membership which will be competitive, fair, and fun.
ii. To support and promote the sport of disc golf and disc sports in general.
(Both tournaments were considered to be local events that many HFDS club members would attend and also promote disc golf locally.)
(b) Discussion of the course being developed for Taylor Lake Village by Steve Green and the possibility of HFDS sponsorship of development of that course. The matter was tabled until additional information can be obtained about some of the specifics.
(c) Discussion of the Mozola Course Modification, Improvement and Expansion project. There was discussion of the City of Houston Park & Rec. Dept.'s installation of beaches on Buffalo Bayou requiring temporarily relocating holes #7, #8 and #9 during construction, modification of the hike and bike trail and the installation of a fence by Glenwood Cemetery. (Some of the new fence appears to encroach on Park property even by Glenwood's own survey markers!) It was recently learned that the water treatment facility is being removed from the park and will likely increase available parking and may allow for expansion of the course into that area.
(d) There was also discussion of possibilities for expansion of the T.C. Jester course and other possible locations for installation of new courses.
