Smile Volunteers at Birdshot Tournaments

I would like to thank all of the volunteers that have helped out at our previous tournaments. Volunteers are essential in running a quality tournament. Birdshot would like to organize the volunteer efforts a little. If you visit our website at www.houstonbirdshot.com you will see a volunteers link under the Additional links on the homepage. We are looking for players to signup for spotters, tournament set up and take down, CTP set up and take down, Teebox flag set up and take down, and drinks management. Some of these are not applicable at certain courses. Thanks again for all of you that have helped at our tournaments. Greater Houston has a great bunch of disc golfers.

Sign-ups are now open on TitleDisc until 9:00 am Friday before Tourney. I would like to see as many people as possible in Kingwood, and I hate to see this whole thing getting out of hand. The world has enough problems and when the disc'ers get to hating we know the end must be near. Please stop for a moment and consider what you really want out of all of this (I mean life.) Seriously, disc golf in itself has pretty much saved my life and I would never like to think I brought the lifestyle, sport, hobby (whatever you want to call it) down. Houston's scene is not that of an Austin or a Kansas City, but it's not a bad scene either, just different. Tracy and I feel blessed to be a part of the Houston scene and to get to watch great players like M. Hall, R. Bratten, E. Soete, D. Jowers, R. Hernandez, J. Davidson, C. Worster, N. Dambra and Jenn, K. Peck, C. Joe, playing lights out at big and small events alike; and to experience the friendship of S. Mac, Matchu, the Brogdens, E. Jubin, G. Russell, M. Erickson, S. Payne, L. Kruse, R. Samora, Ed, CJ and Rick Hopper, J. Freeman, C. Goddard, J. Ritter, M. Deering, R. Engle, T. McGary (sp?), D. Currey, T. Yocky, R. Moffit, J. Hudson, A. Lehman and Don, T. Greenway, M. Stillwagon, S. Johnson (I could go on and on for a long time here... and I'm sorry if I left someone I know well out, just going over a quick late night list here) and countless others (point is I have grown to know and appreciate great things about every disc golfer I've come across in this city of 4 million people. Something you don't find in every metropolis. I don't believe Birdshot 2008 is the greatest series ever, but I also know for a fact that the players involved in it are only trying to help disc golf in our area. I said long ago that I believed day of sign-ups for small events were important, but I also understand after helping Birdshot (and my help so far has been minimal compared to Billy and Chuck's efforts) that it does place a good deal extra strain on a limited staff that would also like to play that day. We all try and I appreciate everyone and their efforts and friendliness in this great city. Houston is never exactly what you expect it to be, but in the end it's a pretty darn good place to live. Enjoi with me please. We all get old and die in the end, let's have fun on the way.
