Default NEW Saturday morning minis for concrete T-boxes

Hey everyone, hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Years!!!

I want to get the word out.... We are going to start running a Saturday morning mini at Windwood every Saturday except on the days that Birdshot is running their monthly tournaments and the "Ice Bowl fundraiser" on Jan. 23rd.

We are going to run a mini for the sole purpose of raising money for concrete T-boxes. The plan is 10.00 entry fee....1 dollar goes to an ace pot or closest to the pin on #4 if no ace is thrown...4.50 of each entry goes to the winner and 4.50 of each entry goes to the concrete T-box fund.

This course is getting allot of play and we are trying to make it the best it can be. Concrete T-boxes will help keep the boxes in great shape.

For those who've been playing the course a little info here...There are two holes that have improvements planned and already in the works for them.

#13....Will be shortened so the the T-box gets moved up to the big tree on the right and then the trees along the right side of the fairway will be thinned out making a fair shot for the RHBH thrower.

#17...The distance we lose by shortening #13 will be gotten back by extending the #17 T-box. And we are very excited to be putting in a pond on #17. By putting in the pond we will use the dirt to raise the fairway, so all 18 holes will be high and dry....Even after a big week of rain. We will also raise #18's T-box (which seems to be in water after a rain as well.)

After these two holes are improved I think we'll have the dryest 18holes in town...

Please come out and support the mini... All the money is going right back into concrete T-boxes (so the money raised goes right back to Houston Disc Golf)...how can you lose?

The initial idea is to have 1 division....winner take all (or 1/2 anyways).. It's all for fun and a good cause...
If over the weeks, we get a solid number of participants and definate division seperation then Im open to having 2 divisions Pro and Am...winner takes all in their respective division..

We'll keep a bookeeping post to let everyone know where we stand as far as money raised...

We'll start this Saturday Jan. 9th at 10am and again on the 16th..then take a week off for the Ice Bowl at Moffit and return on the 30th.

I'll try to make it back out there when I can...we always have the one sanctioned tourney & then a mini once every month, so that's two Saturdays us Birdshooters are busy! But I love the course & want to come back & play some more & help out with the fundraising...those minis are the best way to do what you are doing...great idea! I hope lots of people show every week!!!

I'll start this week with a winner take all one division format....with the cold weather coming in I might be the only one out there...

Playing a round in the snow in Ruidoso NM last week taught me that wearing ski gloves until it's time to throw is an awesome way to keep the hands toasty....and the glove makes a great marker.....

After the first week I'm open to holding a couple divisions Pro and Am, and paying the winner.

In the weeks following we should have enough scores to institue the handicap system (especially if the same people come out each week) if the majority would rather play that system..

Time will tell, what format we should run to get the best turnout....It's all about building T-boxes.... so lets have fun doing it..

If it does turn out that I'm the only Houston Disc golfer that can stand the cold this Saturday (hidden challenge there) then there's a slight chance I might actually win.

Any week I win...I'll donate the pot to the T-box fund.. wait...... I mean I'll donate the winnings......

Glad you are starting a mini here Scott, this is a great course, cant wait to play it again. I like the winner-takes-all format..... handicapping is a flawed system and wont encourage players to get better.

we had a small but very competetive mini on Sat. morning. Conrad Joe took the win with a score of +6. He then donated his winnings back to the course fund! Thanks Conrad.

With Windwood nearing completion, and Stonebridge coming up to speed very soon, I think we are going to give the Saturday morning slot to Leafylinks at Stonebridge for minis and support him raising what ever money is needed to complete his course out there.

I will start running a "Friday night Lights" mini out at Windwood starting April 30th. Night golf is a blast and I've heard several people say they haven't done it in a long time and other say they've never played night golf at all, so why not. Once you play night golf, your hooked. Plus with the summer heat that's coming.....

We'll change things up a bit for night golf and open it up to several divisions, but we'll do it mostly for fun, good times and something different to do on a Friday night. Start thinking about what 4 disc you'd light up, we usually play with 2 drivers, a mid and a putter and it's surprisingly hard to lose a disc at night (even if it hits the creek, it's glowing with the little chem light attached )

I know the fees, date, and location. I am not sure what time these minis are starting.
