Default Fundraising for Concrete Tees

It has been suggested that $150 per box is the estimated cost of materials. The city wants all boxes upgraded at one time. City would provide the labor.

36 x $150 = $5,400

Fundraiser Tournaments, bag tag challenge, minis at Moffitt, silent auctions, pay-in ctp for prizes, pledge drive, and donations have all been mentioned. 12 to 18 months to raise the funds?

This will be the perfect opportunity to pick up a bunch of local Moffitt membership. The local crew are very very excited about this project and plan to do their part to raise funds.

So, maybe it's time for a Heater style....Midnight Melee......

Richard: First of all, I would be happy to volunteer to run a Moffitt Show like event out there to help raise funds for the Moffitt tee boxes. With any such fund-raising event there, we need to also put out a jar for ad-hoc donations above and beyond the entry fees. I think a lot of folks out there would kick in an extra $5/$10/$20 they might find in their pockets to help fund such a project.

I also think that since the club has some funds already, it might be appropriate for us to figure out a way to have the club run some kind of "matching funds" operation too. It seems like just the kind of thing that our membership might want to see us spend club money on.

Therefore, I think that we should be able to accomplish this inside of year with no problem. Can we form a separate committee of some kind to begin planning for this? (It probably needs to meet a little more frequently than once a month.)

Larry

Maybe someone who calls Moffitt home would be the one to step up and run some events, Larry. Thanks for the offer, I'm sure there will be lots of opportunity to help raise the money. From conversations I've had at the park, I'm sure there will be lots of folks to step up and help make this a reality.

These all seem like good ideas. We should make this a topic of discussion at the next club meeting. Marshall is planning on coming to the next meeting.

HFDS will be asking for some volunteers to help with fund-raising concrete for Agnes.

Those who are not able to attend the next meeting and want to volunteer or have a fund-raising idea please send a personal message to the club officers Mr. Ed, Conrad, Patrick, Eric and I.

My first time back at Moffitt (or any course for that matter) was today and while I had a FABULOUS time, the tees were difficult to deal with. I'd love to see this happen and will participate when able. Thank you to everyone who is participating in this!

We have been contimplating a list of Moffitt Tee Box sponsors/pledges for the past few months and now is the time to do so.

If you haven't heard, the City of Houston Parks & Rec. has approved the installation of concrete teeboxes at Moffitt. HPARD will provide labor and materials, HFDS will supervise. We will get some specific numbers of City's cost for materials per tee-box any day now. HPARD wants all 36 tees (A's & B's) done at one time.

Even though we do not have the specific fund-raising goal yet (estimated to be approx $5k to $7.5k), any member can begin taking pledges and should email Patrick, Richard or Derek or Personal message BetterCounsel / derek / or ThePatrick through the message board or reply to this post. Any donation is greatly appreciated!

Current Sponsors / Pledges:
  • Larry K. - $100
  • Richard F. - $100
  • Mister Ed - TBD
  • Steve Dufrane - TBD
  • Disc Golf Consultants - TBD

Question: how many people do you estimate play Moffitt a day? 50 or a 100?

It would take some coordination of volunteers but it seems like a person sitting by Tee one (with a letter from the city and dressed appropriately) asking for donations is a great way to tap all those players that you NEVER EVER see at events. Most disc golfers are casual players and they would be willing to support the improvements if they were given a chance. I have been amazed at how many casual players that ONLY have ONE disc offer up a buck or two each time they play at Windwood. For improvements. We are saving that $ for another set of chains per basket at Windwood. That kind of player will NEVER EVER play an event but they would love to see the course improved. Frankly, having a person out asking for donations during peak play time would probably only take 3-4 hours each day.

Also, when the HPRD says they all need to be done at the same time, I hope they don't mean installed all on the same weekend. UGH!

This might have already been discussed further down the thread but I didn't see it. If so I apologize.
