YEAH, ssa fixed the bagger problem. I could care less if some one bags. I can't and won't pay that money to play a round or two of golf. I do enjoy spotting holes and helping out now and then, but I personally don't have the need to compete and have nothing to prove. My passion is art, not so much discgolf.

In the old days, you sand bagged once. After that players gave you such a hard time about playing Rec. again, you moved up. And all was well! IMO, the invention of the excel program and realists who enjoy pointing out your past performances have systematically watered down the entire tournament experience. Tournaments were a lot fun to play.

They're still fun to some of us...and my rating sucks! But I don't really care about that....because it's still FUN! When it stops being fun...I quit!

I've got no disc golf history from the days before excel, i.e. player ratings, so maybe I'll never know how much fun was had back in the day. But speaking as a player who enjoys the sport of disc golf I think the ratings are great. They allow us to quantify performance and produce reasonably accurate comparisons. Having spent 19 years in another niche sport (racquetball) competing in tournaments at the highest amateur level... it would have been really nice to have a ratings system that allowed you to reasonably accurately seed players and segment divisions. Sadly, they haven't figured it out yet. But I can understand the mentality of the disc golfer who would rather remember how they thought they played vs. how they actually did. |

Eric,
That was well put. I agree that the ratings help keep the divisions fair and competitive. I also like the point you made about that golfers not being so accurate with the way the really played. Booooyahhh back Mr. Jake. |

[quote=ERicJ;10449]Hard time how? By yelling "bagger!!" when they go up to collect their plastic, or did it manifest itself with physical violence?
quote] Besides being presented a big ol bag of sand, yes players would yell bagger. Simplier times... Not good or bad, just different. Sorta like commericializing Christmas. Still the same but with a different feel. The benefit of ratings: I can't wait to see what a 1000 rated player in competetion shoots on the Cedar Hills course. I'm thinking the SSA will be around 59. |

Before ratings Sam, you would have already been playing Open kick butt and taking names... Along with many others. But with this "real" barometer reminding you that your "ratings" don't match that of an Open player, results in thoughts of inadequacies toward competing in a class you’re not in. Get me drift? W/o ratings you don't know your limits. This is a debate for another time and space. I just happy that all 18 baskets are in so area players will become better golfers because of a little idea I dreamed up some 20+ years ago. So ratings or no ratings, I welcome players to the challenge of Jack Brooks Park! |

I made 10 "Next Tee" signs that I will install this afternoon. Not every hole will have a sign (unless I make some more) but the few that really need the extra help for way finding (like after 4 and 14) will get a sign.
