played the first 2 rounds with a bandmate.
our bass player showed up for the 3rd round and we played with 2 guys from Kingwood who hadn't been out on the finess course before. So yeah the last round was a group of 5. |

A couple of folks at last night's HFDS meeting expressed some surprise about the tourney coming up this weekend...maybe they'll be contacting one of you guys to get registered.

Hey!!!
I just peeked at the reg. list on the PDGA site and noticed some guy named "Ron" in advanced...who the heck is that? Does he know that his nick-name was used by another Houston player?

I think that's Rob "The Peashooter Engle'" evil twin. Twin brothers of different mothers.

Once again I won't pre reg for a division with only two players! If there isn't 4 people then there probably shouldn't be a division. Now if I can take a few day of signups I may go.

If all you guys waiting would just go ahead & register, maybe more people would go ahead with you & sign up too! We've had more than four players in the open division in tourneys past....some of you still don't come out. Why are so many people against pre-registration? I certainly wouldn't drive out of town not knowing whether I'd be able to play or not...I don't think I'd want to drive across town either. Like we've been saying since springtime (when we started pre-registration only)....it certainly makes it easier on us and ultimately gets us started on time & finished by 5:00. When we did walk-ups, we were getting finished around 7-7:30 at night (in the dark!)....I for one like the idea of being finished before suppertime. Not just as an organizer, but as a player as well. Kudos to those groups that have been around forever & can do it all that same day & get people done at a decent hour. I guess we're not as well coordinated as those Austin & Golden Triangle guys. Of course, most of those events that I've been to seemed to have a core group of at least 10-12 helpers....we have gotten help from people (you know who you are) and we appreciate it...but there have also been a couple of times when mostly it was Chuck & myself. I know a few weeks ago on this site some people were suggesting that maybe we shouldn't be running sanctioned tournaments if we can't run one the way the "experienced" TD's do it. All I can say to that is....do you really want to drive out of town to play in a sanctioned tournament? And as far as championship courses go...Birdshot can't help it that there are only maybe two such courses in Houston...and one of them we're not allowed to even play because of the freaking homeowners association! We are doing the best with what we have...from the outset Birdshot was geared toward mostly recreational players who were interested in playing sanctioned tournaments to get a rating, gather up some points & experience and not have to drive out of town to do it. Blah-blah-blah-blah...I've said all of this before! It's in our mission statement for chrissakes! If you don't want to play...fine...don't come! But don't be critical on this site about the people who seem to think this once a month tournament thing was/is a great thing! Probably 95% of the people I talk to appreciate the fact that we're hosting this series...it's a very small minority that have been critical...and all the criticism has been here on this board....by people that never even come out to play! Either come out & join us & help this thing to grow & become better...or (for lack of a better term) SHUT UP!......Nuff said...get registered today & come join us Saturday for a fun tourney!

Okay...maybe SHUT UP was a little harsh...but I meant everything else! (LOL) Seriously.....let's all get involved & make this a better disc golf town. Let's get in touch with local parks departments & goose 'em to maintain disc golf courses even half as well as they maintain ball golf courses....start a league at your local course...get people interested & involved. After we had one of our monthly mini's in Seabrook a few months back, the next thing you know there were a group of guys who came up with bag tags for that course. We did another mini a few months later there & people were handing us money for course maintenance. This led us to get in touch with the parks department in Seabrook about putting in alternate boxes....they not only okayed it but said there was money in their budget to pay for the materials to do it! Of course, you know how government works....slowly! The materials haven't materialized yet, but I'm sure they're serious about it & it will eventually happen (we just need to stay on them)...the point is, it wouldn't be happening at all if we hadn't put on the mini in the first place & got the locals excited about it! This is the kind of thing that Chuck started Birdshot for in the first place...and is a great example of hopefully starting a fire with a spark. This can happen in more parks & communities...if and when YOU GET INVOLVED!
