I will be down at Jack Brooks next Saturday. What are the current conditions?

I haven't been out there since league last Thursday, but the course was in good shape (apart from the skeeters!)....however, if the hurricane gets near us between now & Saturday it might get a little muddy out there (at best!). If you're off Saturday & the storm doesn't come, you really ought to check out the Eberly Ranch tourney...that's where a lot of us will be if it doesn't get postponed because of Ike. It's up near Brenham and, like those cows say, a little piece of heaven....

We played the course the other weekend and it was in excellent shape. The skeeters were swarming around baskets 1-5 and 16 - 18 but the open baskets were fine. Bring Deep Woods Off! Even when it's a bit wet Jack Brooks is playable.

The park is closed today. Parks people probably need to check it out before opening it.

Birdshot was first responder today at Jack Brooks. Billy and I went by the 2004 entrance and it was locked so we went to the Hwy 6 entrance and got in. On #4 the big tree on the right of the basket had a big part of the trunk cracked and hanging down. Need that tree. On #6 part of the tree on the left side of the teebox is hanging down in front of the teebox. Don't need that tree, just out of the way. On #9 those 4 skinny trees guarding the basket are leaning way over to the left. Shame. The rest of the course is okay. Just had to do a lot of trimming and dragging. I do like the green carpet along the walkways and around the baskets. Its ready for league tomorrow.

As Chuck said, we did do a bit of trimming...I know Jake had said "DON'T DO IT!", but this was different. We weren't just trimming for the hell of it to open up a shot...we were trimming so you could walk (in the case of the woods holes) and then we did trim around a couple of baskets where branches were literally bent & hanging in front of the basket! The big tree in front of hole #4 will probably have to come down...too bad...that tree is part of what makes that hole challenging (apart from the sometimes mando through-the-woods drive). And the "octopus tree" guarding #9 is not so much of an octopus anymore. All in all though, the course is not in nearly as bad a shape as we thought it would be...I thought there would be downed trees everywhere, but it was mostly branches that were broken & hanging all over the place. If nobody made it out last Thursday because of evacuations & preparations, we'll talk tonight about making up that week instead of taking a drop...maybe we can play twice next week or something like that. See you guys out there this afternoon!

imo, trees should be trimmed that are at eye level. I am sure the city does not want someone losing an eye, because we all know it is fun until someone loses and eye.

Losing an eye is no fun! Of course, you can always use the Force, Luke!

With the cooler weather the skeeters should have cleared out a bit. Still, bring two new cans of Deep Woods Off per person and you should be OK.
The course is in great shape. Not a lot of damage at all. |

The entire course is cut, limbs removed, new baskets installed all over the place. This weekend is going to be fun. A heartfelt thanks to all that has helped get r done. |
