I think we'd like to know how exactly we can assure anybody in any division of how many people they will have to play with...that's part of the problem....how do we attract pros in the first place (without it being a B-tier event)? My feeling is that since our refund policy is now more lenient than it used to be, why don't you (Matt) sign up early on & see if you can attract people in? If nobody bites, you can always back out & get your money back. I wouldn't necessarily want to wait until the day of the tourney to find out either...I'm with you there! I remember Dixon will sometimes wait until a couple of days before because he felt that if he signed up early he might "scare" some people away. At the sanctioned events, I think the registration fee for pros is where it should be ($50)...typically for minis we reduce all the division fees by about half, the pros we've been charging $20....Novice & REC $5....INT & ADV $10. I'll ask you the same question I asked yesterday...if we lowered it to $15 for pros, do you think more people would play up (we're talking strictly the minis here)? As far as the real tourneys go, who knows what is going to motivate advanced players with a higher rating to go "pro"...as far as us older guys go, I'm trying to start a trend by moving up (like Chuck did when he started playing MG1 by himself). At the minis, though, I will probably play my rating....unless all us old guys want to pay the extra $ to play in an MPG division at the minis...I wouldn't want to play against you, Matt (not to say that I wouldn't want to play with you, just not against you).

I think it's a large load of hooey that you're "throwing it out" because you don't like the resulting points distribution. If that'd been the advertised outcome ahead of time, then fine... but making that call after the fact is bunk.

I agree with ERic - making any changes to format, payout, etc after the fact is bad practice. If it's announced beforehand or even at the players meeting, then it's okay. But I always get upset when stuff gets changed after it has been published one way and then gets changed without notice or announcement. (The last Shawshank event for example was billed as an all-cash payout and then got changed to Ams get plastic sometime after round 1 was in progress - as an example.)

In regards to mini events:

There have been a couple of things I've learned by running the Commando Mini. 1. Keep the entry fee low. 2. Keep all of the entry fees the same.

This way players aren't scared to risk playing in their first competitive event, or they aren't scared to play up in division for a chance to get to play (and learn from) more experienced players.

It seems like having the entry fees all be the same removes any financial reasons why someone would play in one division over the other.

I don't think this was part of any "master plan" by Chuck...I was under the impression that since about 85% of the players there were Birdshot staff is the reason we decided to just all put in $5 & play...I assumed that the round wouldn't even count in the mini points standings (which, as it turned out, is basically what has happened). I didn't know it was being called the "open" division either...like I said, since so few people showed up I figured it was a bust! Chuck? Your serve!

Again...I think you guys are giving Chuck too much credit (for what, I'm not sure!). As far the Commando goes, Larry....that's a week to week thing...you're not keeping up with any series points like we are, so it's a different situation.

At the moment we threw out the divisions at the Memorial Mini it should have been noted that the mini was no longer part of the GHMCS, but it wasn't. As TD this was my fault and not Chuck's. I should have made that clear but I was otherwise occupied showing off my nutsac.

Why wouldn't it count?!? Are Birdshot staffers not eligible for GHMCS points/profits?
