I can't believe I have not put this thread up already....sorry about that, folks! Many of you already know about this one...but for those of you who don't, here goes....Saturday, September 11, 2010 Birdshot & Disc Golf Consultants are bringing you a very cool B-tier at Shawshank Disc Golf Penitentiary just this side of Huntsville on Steve Dufrane's private course! For those of you who have played this course, you know how sweet it is...if you haven't been out there in the last two or three months I have to tell you that now it's even sweeter! Steve's been putting a LOT of work into the course getting ready for this event and for the PDGA US Masters next spring....great tee boxes, some cool tee signage & some different hole designs that have been tweeked a bit (as if it wasn't hard enough already!). This time out, the lunch fee is NOT mandatory...but I have to tell you that the $10 fee includes breakfast (a wicked biscuits & gravy) and catered BBQ from a local restaurant....unless you're planning on bringing your own food, there's nowhere close to drive to for lunch and it will definitely be worth the $10 (this will not be a repeat of the infamous Hooters disappointment like at Klein last month!). Online registration is up this morning, so for those of you who have been asking when....it's now available....go to www.houstonbirdshot.com for details & registration!

The new tee boxes are the best I've seen
The biscuits and gravy alone are worth the $10 Epic fail on the 6 Hooters chicken nuggets for $6

A Northside crew with Billy and I went up to Shawshank yesterday and Byron (Ellsworth)? Justin's brother got after it making 21 benches for all the tee boxes. Also Fred, Will (from Sam Houston State U., Justin Ellsworth, Colton Martin, Paul Engerdorf, Derrick Stair helped. We got a scrumptious lunch and a free round in the afternoon. Next Sunday the Northside crew is going back to put them in the ground. The only thing left to do is to put nets in the ponds on 6 and 16(Conjugal Visit). I wonder if anybody has memorized the names of all 21 holes. If somebody did and recited all 21 at the players meeting in less than a minute (1 every 3 seconds), what prize should they get?

B-TIER = 500 added cash and a players pack for Am's. I know this is on Steve's nice private course, but what does Birdshot & DGC B-Tier plan to do EXTRA so that I can go out and tell people about this event.

Same here! There are two other B-tiers that weekend with Mr. Jims being known for big payouts and Wilco being known as a great design.
Right now I would rather play one of those with big MPO divisions instead of gambling on this event having a good field. BTW......MAPLE HILL is AWESOME!!!!!!!!! |

Any new info for this event?
It would probably do you guys some good to post this event on the PDGA boards if you want out of town players to show. |

I guess you already know about the alternate pin placements for 1,2,3,9,11,14,16. Right side OB string on 9 will not be in play for alternate pin 9. Did you know about the island OBs on 10,12,18? Patrick will post something on PDGA board. The added cash will probably be more than the minimum $500. How much you say? Wait for it. Will get back to that later. The Am players pack will be worth more than the $10 retail minimum. Custom stamped roc and towel so far. There will be custom stamped CFR and other discs with the Texas Department of Criminal Disc Golf logo on them. Tshirts with that logo also. Shirts are $15. Cost of discs vary. Around 7 different types of discs. What else? You already know about the new tee boxes, tee markers, and benches. Oh yeah, all of the baskets will have a concrete block under them for greater stability. There will be a mando for 5 but not for 13. DZ has been changed for 16. Lunch is catered from a BBQ place. We need for players to support the breakfast / lunch option. Thats all I can think of for now. Bottom line: The course just keeps getting harder and harder, better and better, tournaments better and better. 84 player limit strictly enforced due to limited daylight and playing difficult 21 holes. One last thing. There is only one way to escape the Shawshank Disc Golf Penitentiary. Shoot under par. 100 or above is life sentence with possible parole.
