I was talking to someone at Bear Branch today, and they said someone told them that starting on January 1rst, you have to be a resident , or be with a resident to play River Grove Park. Anyone heard of this?

Yes that was revealed during the player's meeting at the recent tournament. KSA representatives were present and they did confirm that the park would be going private at the start of 2011. But there may be a glimmer of hope for disc golfers. They did note the surprise and disappointment from the players upon hearing that news. Right after that the player's went to their holes to begin play, but I had to run back to the car to get something and they were still in the parking lot. They stopped me and said they would ask the KSA board if they could explore some possibilities for granting player's access. Perhaps some kind of program where disc golfers purchase some type of park pass? More details to come I'm sure...

Now literally "nobody" will ever play this course.

Is there a number we can call to voice our concern to the KSA about making the course off limits to non-residents? River Grove is literally the ONLY course on the NE side of town and it is unique in the challenge it provides Houston disc golfers. Might be a good cause for HFDS to take up. |

I talked to a park employee on Monday morning and after talking to them I understand the KSA frustration. Recently they have experienced TONS of theft, everything from benches, tables, signs, and more in the park. Also, the residents within the KSA pay an annual fee and when they try to come to the park that they have paid for there aren't any parking spaces. There really wasn't any complaints about the course being a problem mostly the fishing parking lot BUT it is just about impossible to restrict part of the park.
The fee that KSA charges the residents is $30 a year. If players really want to play that course and enjoy it I am sure that the KSA would take your $30 so you can play. Sounds like someone needs to offer and see what happens. |

So just to clarify, is the disc golf going to be closed to non-stickered people or will it just be the parking? If I ride my bike there and play will someone care?

Looks like you've found a loophole in their rule big enough to ride a bike through.

I used to live "near" Kingwood 10 years ago. But my neighborhood wasn't one original KingwoodTM subdivisions so I wasn't allowed to pay and get a sticker. My bike came in pretty handy then.
