What we have been told, is similar to an asphalt road surface, so thats the final vision. Whatever is there now is not supposed to be the end product.

I never said the skate park generates funds either, but since you brought it up, how much funding for the city do all the courses built on park property generate for the city? Look at the size of the footprint all the courses added up in city parks take up. You'd think I was against disc golf courses but I'm not, I'm just saying, just because it's not "your" thing doesn't mean it's a waste of money. The park still gets 10x the use the course at Mozola gets each week. Put together an organized skate board tourney each week like a " DG league" and it would probably get 50x the use of the course. The skate park does provide skaters a central downtown location to skate and it's foot print is very small, and hopefully it keeps the majority of skaters out of the parking garages, so it addresses the safety issue somewhat by giving them a place to skate. I happen to be a person who supports the building of the skate park.. I'm an ex skater who doesn't hate everything not disc golf.... maybe if they had, had better skateparks when I was younger, my ankles would be it good enough shape today so I could climb the boulder tee-boxes at McGregor and T-off for a round....

The footprint of a disc golf course is basically nothing, just the teepad and the basket, the fairways can and are used by walkers, bikers, dogs, etc. A skatepark is an exclusive use area, we cant go in there and ride our bike or throw a disc. Im an ex-skateboarder too and i dont support taking disc golf land for skateparks. The skatepark has brought more skaters to the downtown area, not to the skatepark, and they go all over the place. |

the foot print for a course is pretty big, especially when you consider the safety aspect of trying to NOT cross pedestrian paths and put other park users in harms way..otherwise these things would be of no consequence when designing a course right? There is still plenty of under utilized property at Mozola to make up for the very small foot print the skate park takes up. and finally yes, the skatepark brings skaters, people, money into the city....but hey isn't that the argument dg'ers try to make when petitioning for a new course? So I guess that's a bad thing? |

Here are some pics I took at league last night:
![]() ![]() (It turns out they did use screws instead of nails, as I had previously posted.) ![]() (This was by far the most destroyed tee box I saw yesterday.) ![]() (Where the hell is this box pointing?) ![]() (Posted just for humor, though I actually agree the blue boxes should be this small.) |

And now that I feel like I have spread too much negativity regarding this tee box issue, I would like to share some good news:
Yesterday at league, I saw that there were several more frames installed! WORK HAS NOT STOPPED! I am thrilled about this; part of me was really afraid they were going to quit and leave the boxes how they were. No hot asphalt yet, but work has definitely not stopped. Also, some of the new frames put in are really going to help some of the worst tee boxes on the course. Here is a picture of hole 14's new box-in-progress. The old box, if you can't remember, was plagued by huge roots, large asphalt chunks, and just a general uncertain footing. ![]() Here's to hoping the city can finish strong on this project! |
