Birdshot maintenance funds at work again! I went out to Gulf Meadows and worked from 8:30 to 5:30. No lunch since I'm not union. Put in tee markers for 2 long and 18. 2 is kinda long because I got tired of fighting with the roots. Put in 6 landscape timbers for front of tee box boards on 1,3,4,7,13,14. The thing about 13 is that I didn't put the board at the original tee box. I noticed that the tee marker had taken damage. Probably a mower that couldn't see it because it never gets weedeated. Anyway, I decided to put the board way back and to the left by a couple of trees for an alternate long 13. I will put up a tee marker eventually. Also painted the tee markers, next tee sign for 16, bridge top rail on 18, and the 11 wood posts by the parking lot. I still had some left over so I painted the hoods of a couple of cars in the parking lot. I thought it went well with the rest of the paint job. The color is Ruby Ring. Home Depot said it was a dark red which is what I was told to buy. Its not as dark as the course board, but close kinda. Still more to do of course. Need to replace the short board on 8, secure the board on 10, put in tee markers for long 10 and long 13. Need distances on tee markers now that they are painted over. I will consult Jake about that. $82 spent for supplies today. Still have about $20 in Birdshot maintenance funds. I think the long alternate tee markers should be a dark blue. I should of thought about that before I painted the long 2. Oh well.

Your comment leads me to believe that you bothered to read the short story. I'm surprised.

sounds like things are comming along. I went out there for the first time last weekend and ran into problems finding some of the holes. I couldn't find a tee box for 5 though I did eventually find the basket. 6 I found a board that I"m assuming was the tee. 7 I assumed the bench was the tee area. Once out in the open there were no markers but at least there were bare spots for everything except 10 (I think it was 10, the first hole in the open) After 14 I had no clue, no bare spots, tee markers, etc. I ended up quitting there. A map or some kind of marker for those holes would be nice for those of us who only get out occasionally.

Of course stuff will be marked for the Nov. 13th tourney, but it shows you just how much work needs to be done out there between now & Texas States in the spring! Volunteers are what makes the really good events happen...and we (meaning all of us who play the sport in the area) need to organize & come together a few weekends the next four months and make it happen! From what I understand, the tee posts are ready for the new course...let's get those suckers in!

Exclamation Re: Course Maintenance and Improvement

It's looking like it's almost certain that Birdshot will spearhead a Brooks workday on Saturday November 6th...a week before the B-tier! I'll post again for certain after we talk with Chuck, but I can almost guarantee that's what will happen. We encourage EVERYONE to come out & join in that morning....the plan is to get as much done as possible to clean the courses up (trimming, picking up limbs, etc. - possibly planting some tee posts at the new course!)...work til about 1PM, eat some lunch & then maybe shoot a round of doubles! We will probably try to get started by 8:00....again, I will post here after I find out for certain that this is what's going on, but it looks like that's what's happening!

The TC Jester mini never got posted to the website schedule. I would like to meet Larry out at TC Jester that morning to do a walkthrough if he is available. I think that TC Jester has the potential to be an 18 basket course someday with a sanctioned tournament. I can catch up with what is going on at Brooks later if walkthrough materializes.
