I'd bet we will be scheduling the Buffalo Bayou Downtown Classic at Sabine Park sometime in the Spring. |

Chuck had a great idea for Bass & I think we're going to try to do it as a fundraiser for States...probably in January or February. It's really obvious when you think about....he wants to call it Bass Ackwards & we play both courses backwards! For instance, Hole 18 on the Wilmont would be Hole 1 (maybe tee off somewhere near the parking lot) and so on....we did that fundraiser out there last year & it went pretty well...I think this would be even more fun & would draw a lot of people. I suggested $20 per player...half to cash payout, the other half to States...non-sanctioned of course.

I would say IF we didn't have to pay to shut down the ball golf course, then SV & Windwood would make a sweet duo for a B-tier...otherwise I would have to agree about the money being spent elsewhere. Apart from the fundraiser I was talking about, maybe later in the year Bass definitely would be a course worthy of a B-tier...maybe late September when it's not as hot? After Brooks in a couple of weeks, Birdshot will be having a meeting to hash out the schedule. Those of you with contacts with the other Texas clubs who might know or be able to find out the dates for the yearly big events like Texas Womens, Waterloo & stuff like that...please let us know ASAP so we can schedule around them. We'll try not to have anything major going on anytime around Worlds as well...

Too many birdshot staff posts. More players please. Justin what do you think about an afternoon/evening tourney at Moffit? With the ice bowl and Moffit show being the only two full tourny's that HFDS run each year we try not to step on the Moffit course too much.
What are everyones thoughts on Snow farm? Was it too far? Also with McDade it is going to be more expensive by about $2/player due to fees from having to "rent the park" I like shawshank for a tourney as well, but we'd have have to make it in the fall so we're not in the way of Masters.

Why doesn't Birdshot have an e-mail list? And a SurveyMonkey? Quote:
"Night events currently can be PDGA sanctioned as X-tiers where players can earn points and ratings. It's common to have one or more day rounds and one night round as the event format but all rounds can be at night if desired. Players must use PDGA Approved discs under the current standards. However, when the TD requests a waiver for the event, players are allowed to tape the LED bobber lights to their discs (even max weight discs) in addition to using longtime PDGA Approved discs where the glow compound is blended in the plastic." --http://www.pdga.com/leding-indicators Not too far. |

Snow Farm is a fun course and the drive isn't tooooo far. It's a good halfway point for Houston and Austin players and should be advertised that way to draw both groups.
Do whatever you guys can to have a tournament at SV. The mix of power and finesse along with various "dirty" or alternate holes make for a great tournment layout. The B-Tier last year appeared to be one of the best tournaments you guys have run. With new holes and numerous alterations at Shawshank, it may be cool to have two different tournaments out there next year (early & late). Even with them hosting masters, this would be a great opportunity for Steve to test out any new holes, get feedback, and maybe have a "practice run" before Masters. The course in Beaumont is worth hosting a tournament at again. Any chance to get out of town for a change of scenery is a nice change. I agree with Griff. There needs to be some Final 9 Safari or Skins matches to mix things up and add to the fun factor. More CTPs, Ring of Fires, putting challenges, etc. Small things like this always make tournaments more memorable. Keep doing what you guys do! It is apparent to the players of Houston that Birdshot is getting bigger and better every year and making strong efforts to learn in the process. Don't settle for complacency because we obviously have a lot of potential in Houston Disc Golf to be better than we currently are. I am excited to see what is in store for next year.

i think a few bucks more at mcdade for a 2 day event wouldnt be something people notice.
9 hole course for an ace race....river plantation? or even a worst shot doubles at RP? might make it more interesting on such an easy course. ace race at terramont! hills! 2 day event course suggestions for an avg joe player like myself could be mcdade and bear branch. or a combo of those 2 and another course with the final at a cool 9 hole like terramont. im from the north so i can only really speak about ones up here. im sure 2 days event have so have some sort of central lodging place and or not to far from each other. what about a huge b tier using brooks and bass in a 2 day? 4 courses and a afternoon final 9 safari layout at either? only thing i could so be the biggest problem would be to get it filled..maybe next years bcs finale? i know im new and never played a big tourney yet, but ive been like a sponge. sorry if some of these things just arent possible becuase of neighborhood restrictions or other rules i dont know about. |
