I was talking with someone at PYMWYMI who mentioned the absence of cash minis. I know there is the Saturday morning WW mini, but how about once or twice a month, on a weekend, thrown by Birdshot? Ca$h is King!

Hi Throw Innova,
At a C tier, the PDGA allows the TD to take 10% management fee up to $100. Sometimes if we fill, we end up only taking about 5-6%. We also have to cover the $50 PDGA sanctioning fee. That is usually the only expense that the players are covering. We have other expenses (Internet Provider Service, Bank account monthly service charge, course prep, etc.) All these expenses are covered by DGC since they are our main sponsor. We also take out money for course maintenance funds if we have enough entry fee money. If somebody would like to sponsor the management fee and PDGA sanctioning fee that would be $150 that we could put back into the payout. The sponsor would be mentioned at the players meeting, be on the website, and have a sign at a hole. Anybody interested? |

Simplistic example: say you have AM's pay $1500 in entry fees and your merchandise markup is 100%. Even if you pay out the AMs 100% that's giving them product that cost you $750. That means you have $750 cash left over to cover sanctioning, park rental, ISP, bank account, gas, course supplies, management fee, profit, and whatever else. Retail markup gives you, the TD, an extra amount of "payout" above and beyond the "entry fees". At least I think that's what Dixon is saying. Last edited by ERicJ; 11-04-2010 at 04:34 PM. Please understand, I don't expect the TD's to do what they do just out of the goodness of their hearts.
I love DD events. Jeremy makes money off of them. I don't have a problem with that. I have no problem with Birdshot being compensated for their time and effort. Albeit small given the current status of disc golf. Eric is right on in trying to help explain what I am saying, Chris. Am payout goes directly to the person supplying the merchandise. They are selling the merchandise for a markup. Everything they sell has a built in profit. Right now, all of that profit goes to DGC and good for them, they got a great deal. That leaves Birdshot to cover their expenses on the front end straight from the entry fees. So instead of $100 going into payout only $85 actually makes it there. (I'm just using random numbers to keep it simple, btw.) |

You have a great idea Dixon, but I can't see it being realized for Birdshot. Another approach to increasing payout would be for players to help us find specific event sponsors. We'd love to pump hundreds of bucks into the Brooks Final but thus far we've had a hard time finding sponsors. |
