Day and I went to SV today to access the course conditions. The course is still closed due to the lack of power which is also necessary to run the pump for running water. The overflow from Spring Creek has receded but the water hazards that were previously bone dry are all at full capacity now. On the Finesse course SV owner Mike O'Brien removed 5 baskets that were closest to the creek (#3, #4, #5, #6, #8) prior to the storm. All of the sleeves were easy to locate and will go back in this week. On the Finesse course holes #6, #13, and #17 all have large trees downed in their fairways that will need to be cleared. Along the left side of #7 is a large downed tree that does not impede the fairway but is quite a hazard if you hyzer left. There is a lot of debris throughout the course left behind from the flowing water that was well up and over the top of several baskets. The large tree that shaded to the picnic bench on the tee of #7 broke in 1/2 and is laying just behind the tee box. Several small trees were bent over and hanging in fairways. There are 2 large trees down between #17 basket and #18 tee box making it completely impassable.

All of the power course holes we observed looked to be ok. They have already been working on the greens on the golf course and it looks pretty good after being completely underwater less than a week ago.

Mike said they are hoping to have the golf course and pro shop open by Wednesday (9/24) with generators if the power is not restored. They also plan to get the bulldozer into the disc golf course to do cleanup. We'll post more updates as progress is made.

Also, as a result of the storm and the shortening of daylight, we are going to suspend the Tuesday Mini's for the rest of the year. We're probably going to move it to Sunday's at 2pm to give players the option of playing the Commando in the AM or a second Mini on Sunday afternoon. Thoughts or Feedback on this idea are welcomed...

Andi,
North Side Chain Gang would gladly put together a work day to help out with the changes, just let me know when we can do it.

From Andi this morning sometime....

Hello Disc Golfers,

Spring Valley is finally coming back to life after Hurricane IKE. The entire course was underwater for a few days but the Pro Shop escaped without any damage except for no power. The disc golf course has fallen trees that are being cut and removed as we speak but it will take a few days, maybe weeks, before it's back to normal. As of today though, the Pro Shop and the Golf Course have reopened for business. The disc golf course is traversable but crews are working to remove or cut through the downed trees on #4, #6, #13 and #17. Could make for some interesting obstacles.

Thanks,
Andi Lehmann

Nahhh....it sounds like SV is going to be playable (only with a few new obstacles)

Don't forget that the NEW start time for the Commando Mini is 10:00 am on Sunday!

Just a little side note. Larry and myself are going out there a little earlier today to help with clearing the problem spots. So if anybody wants to come out and help, we'll be there @ 9.
Hopefully we'll get some chain gangers out there to do what we do best. Take care of our side of town.
