A suggestion about the beer drinking. Don't encourage players to drink discreetly. That sends the wrong message. Tell players that if you are caught with beer that there will be consequences. What consequences I have no idea. I know when I was a teacher, I couldn't tell my students that they could talk as long as they whisper. Doesn't work. Maybe not a good analogy. You either allow or don't.

I agree with Bryan. Confronting those that are messing with the courses that we love is the best medicine.
Maybe we should do like the police do....have a sting operation. :-) One weekend schedule committed DGers to sit at hole one and remind people of the rules. Simply and politely remind them about: 1. No Alcohol 2. Picking up trash 3. Signing in during the week I could even do this a couple days during the week. Honestly, the fact that we are talking about this is a healthy thing for this sport and I think we should all be more aware that we do have responsibilities as players to help. Doug |

Oh...and if they did get caught sneaking in, couldn't they be arrested for trespassing? Or at least asked to leave?

Just another short observation:
Other than regular or serious disc golfers, the general public/casual disc tossers do not know that the folks maintaining these courses are all volunteer with a few minor exceptions. Those of us that have invested a fair amount of sweat equity in maintaining/improving these courses are particularly angered with course trashing/vandalism and have an invested right to confront miscreants. Maybe we should put up signs explaining the volunteer aspect and request the courtesy of doing likewise? But then again, these are probably kids still living at home and momma is still cleaning their room and picking up after them. In my short experience with this sport I've noticed that disc golfers in general, from recreational to pro will even take the time to pick up other peoples trash let alone carry their own. For this I am grateful. BB |

I don't think the season pass would work well unless you want to employ someone to actuvely work the course. With no enforcement it just becomes a rule to ignore and you don't want to send the message that it's ok to ignore the course rules.

If you follow this thread back.. The complaints of alcohol on the course were brought to the lead pastors attention back in April and May of this year.... The answer was to post signage around the course stating that alcohol was prohibited on the church property (which includes, the church, the private school and the disc golf course).
Now here we are again 6 months later talking about it again.. I understand it's not the active disc golf community, represented here on this message board creating the problem. I'm fairly certain to the family who is writing a check for over a thousand dollars a month to have their children attend Windwoods private school, that they are not walking into pastor Kevin's office to debate whether or not the people they just watched walk across the parking lot with a six pack of beer to play disc golf on the course that wraps right around the school, are "serious" disc golfers or just random disc tossers. I'm pretty sure they are going into his office to say something more along the lines of. "Pastor Kevin, as you know this is the second time we have come here to discuss the issue of disc golfers walking around the school, throwing frisbees and drinking beer." "when we were here last May you said you would post signs and get the word out that this was not acceptable here and that you believed you could get this under control". "Now here we are again, not 6 months later and the situation has not improved, I just pulled in, as several disc golfers were walking across the parking lot with six packs of beer in hand and we are not comfortable with this". I'd hate to see your enrollment suffer from this, however we have a responsibility to our children and before we make our decision on where our children will be enrolled next year, we are asking, exactly how you plan on handling this.. That's how I see the discussion going guys.... Pretty sure his answer isn't going to be......"yeah, but those guys aren't true disc golfers.. just miscreants.. chill out guys.." How many of these parents will it take? On top of the other church members who are not real pleased about seeing this every week, before Kevin comes to us and says, "Guys I'm sorry, we tried everything we could, we've been more than supportive, but I also have a responsibility to the church and to the school... So I'm asking everyone here, take a bold stand now before it's too late, say what you have to say to get the message across. Windwood is not the place. Many of you have invested a lot of hard work out here, do not allow those who show complete disrespect for the churches property and their responsibilities to their students, families and church members to take this course from you.... |

On a lighter note...a big sign has been built and will be installed any day now (once I get the Property Councils approval) It will have a large course map, church information, and of course a list of the rules.
![]() We are also VERY close to being ready to install our new tee signs. They look amazing. I am wanting to keep ACE markings off them. Suggestions? I was thinking about putting a small pole by the tee sign for people to write their aces on and call it....ready...."ACE POLE". Most of the holes aren't aceable so there won't need to be to many of them.Peace Doug |
