Basket volunteering has been excellent this year; I've already got confirmation on 15 baskets and the other six I'm just waiting on an email.

During the lunch break, if the weather permits, we're going to have our slow-motion cameras set up to film drives on the old driving range portion of the course. For $1 a drive (benefiting Jack Brooks Park improvements) you will receive a digital movie of your drive filmed in slow motion (210FPS) from multiple angles. Take a look at your drive slowed down and find out where you need to make improvements on your technique.

The course is also looking like a lot of fun. I've been getting input from players on the how to make the most of the land we're using for some awesome holes. The length is going to clock in at nearly 9,000' making it one of the longest courses in the area.

The hardest part of playing DoC III will be knowing that you've only got one chance to play the course. After we're done the baskets will be taken back to assorted backyards around town and the old ball golf course will return to the limbo it remains in. Don't miss it.

I live about a block from the course and you are welcome to my basket if you need it.

Are you still planning to walk the course Saturday at 2? If so I'd love to join you.

This weekend I walked the course with Billy, Chuck, Melissa and Doug (SlowMo) to solicit feedback on the design. We moved a few holes around, put in some nasty OB areas and moved what was going to be holes 5 & 6 to holes 18 & 19.

The course gets progressivly harder with most of the really tough shots coming in the last nine holes. All told, the course is shaping up to be pretty challenging and certainly long. I'm excited that with less than three weeks to go we've got 20 confirmed baskets and an exciting course in store.

I'm debating multiple tee box locations for each hole as it increases the set-up time for the course. What does everyone think about playing two rounds from the same tee? Should the adfternoon round have alt tees that are longer or shorter than the first?

Here are some of the holes that I'm particularly excited about:
  • Hole 1: 340' to the basket with no hyzer line and tight OB behind the basket.
  • Hole 4: 360' with a basket out of view from the tee. The tee box is located in OB about 240' from the cart path with the old sand trap serving as an in-bounds island in the OB. Either go for the safe island or go for the cart path from the tee.
  • Hole 11: 400' over the culvert to the basket up on the old golf course green
  • Hole 13: 650' from the tee on the top of a small hill you have a 550' fairway that doglegs around a mando tree, over 75' of water to a basket on a hill with OB close behind. Our consensus is that this is the signature hole for this course. A three on this hole would be amazing.
  • Hole 14: 470' with a players choice from the tee; go big over the pond or play it safe and throw along a narrow, tree lined path up to the basket area.
  • Hole 17: 370' from a tee box behind a small hill players to a basket located around the corner of the maintenance yard.
  • Hole 18: 680' of wide open fairway to a basket protected by trees with close OB.
  • Hole 19: 580' from the tee box (located in OB) to a tapered landing zone with OB on either side leading up to the basket on a hill protected by an OB sand trap.
  • Hole 20: 550' along a tree lined fairway with cart path OB on the left and the treeline OB on the right. Fairway measures about 20-30' wide for most of the hole.
  • Hoel 21: 560' to the final basket protected by large OB areas with the basket sitting at the back of a grass island about 30' long and 12' wide.
More fun facts:
  • Average hole length: 467'
  • Total courselength (approxiamate): 9,800'
  • Number of tee boxes located in OB area (tee box is not OB): 8
  • Number of mandos: 5-6
  • Number of holes with OB water: 4
  • Number of times Billy said I was insane: 1
Online registration is up on the Birdshot site.
