Default Should the Central Houston Mini go on a Break Until the Fall?

It has been suggested that the Central Houston Mini should take a break once the time change occurs and return to the Monday after work time slot at Mozola, until next Fall.

Originally, this mini started when we converted the Mozola six week league into a weekly mini at Mozola. When the amount of light after work began to diminish last fall, we ultimately moved it to the 9 am Sunday time slot. Does it now make sense to move it back to the Monday @ Mozola @ 5:30 pm time slot when the Spring time change occurs? Is this action effective in development of disc golf activities and in support and promotion of disc golf?

Some have suggested continuing keeping the Central Houston Mini where it is and run a Mozola Monday Mini during the Summer, also. Some have suggested the convenience of a centrally located event running every Sunday morning is the difference in whether they play an event on a Sunday morning or not.

The original thought by those that run this event is that we as players would be playing somewhere every Sunday morning usually in centrally located courses approximately 40 weeks a year. So, why not go ahead and run a mini at the same time? Plus, we could raise some funds for baskets for course expansions for some of those same older courses which are in need of maintenance and improvement.

There is a valid point here that there are more events generally in the Summer, such as leagues, Tournaments, etc., and we do not want to compete with the ordinary summer stuff for the limited amount of player's entry fees for events because to do so would not support HFDS' goals of development of disc golf activities and support of the promotion of disc golf. On the one hand, we want all Birdshot and other's tournaments and mini events in the area to be successful and/or fill, on the other hand, does running this central Houston Sunday morning mini get more of the casual players into playing competitively? In the long run does this increase the number of players that will play in organized events generally including those of Birdshot and others, thus outweighing whatever conflicting event effect it has? This is an interesting marketing and promotions question.

The consensus is that there are many disc golfers in Houston that either do not know about HFDS and/or the events being run by Birdshot and others. If they knew, it seems that players participation in these events would increase.

i'm out of town alot on weekends but i like that something competitive goes on regularly on sundays , aside from s.v. , which is a long drive for me, i would have voted that it be at mac g every week but i'm only one man and i'm just grateful that it goes on. if there is a birdshot mini going i could see postponing the chm.

I vote yes to keep the Sunday minis going. It gives the players that live in the central part of Houston a series to call their own; like the SW players have the SWHM, the southside has the Birdshot leagues, the Northside has the Commando mini, Windwood mini and the new Northside series starting soon. Yes, it can be argued that the central players already have the HFDS leagues to call their own, but Sunday doesn't conflict with anybody but SV Commando mini right now. I plan on moving into the central part of Houston soon and would love to help run the Sunday minis.

just something to entertain, keep the mini at mac g ,( centrally located, big turnout and beginner friendly), and alternate between long and short tees. maybe even throw the blues in every now and then.(when tha ace pot gets big!!!!)
