Default Inner Chains?

Is there a specific plan for the course fund thta the mini is saving into?

If not, I would recommend inner chains. I have thought we needed this for a while, but it was only a mild annoyance. Then yesterday during the mini, I tied the corse record, which would normally be good. However, I had about a 10 ft putt on hole 1 that went right into the middle of the chains, hit the orange stripe and went out the back. There was my record, in and out of so few chains.

What say ye?

I like your idea to add inner chains, but I have two problems for you to solve.

Where is the best deal on hot-dip galvanized finish. 2/0 straight link coil chain, rings and s-hooks?

How would you get the inner chains approved?

We do indeed have that as one of our plans for improvements. As Jim said...if we alter the basket will they still be PDGA approved (or was Jim asking how do we get the church to improve it)

I still go back to this idea. Of course the baskets could use an additional set of chains. Of course the course could use lots of things. But it is what it is. I have NEVER heard of a professional Ball golfer at a PGA event complain when greens are to fast or the rim or a hole is to hard. Everyone plays the same course and you adjust. Certainly a 10Ft putt going thru the chains is VERY frustrating. If I had a 10ft putt that went thru the chains I would be pissed at the basket too, BUT later at myself for not putting a 10 ft put right dead center so it would have hit to pole. I do say this in all seriousness...I agree additional chains are needed.

Also, another way to think about it is that the course record was EARNED on a harder course. If additional chains are added then the course is technically easier.

I have priced chain and hooks and looked at some very nice ways to put them on the baskets. It is about $50 a basket for a total of $1050 for the course. We have had other priorities.

If you are wondering where the Mini money has gone:
1. We pay a majority of the Raptor system (ID scanning system that is used to check for sexual preditors)
2. Course Maintenance: This includes: mowing (have the seen the price of gas lately, sharpening of blades, erosion control, trash cans and bags, air filters and of course LABOR
3. Eagle Scout Project support

We do have lots of improvements are on the list. One thing I am very excited about is a water access point by tee 14 so players can refill water bottles and water dogs. Chains are also on this list. You will be seeing things happening soon.

IF you have suggestions PLEASE don't hesitate to share them with me. We are open to ALL and any suggestions. I can't wait to hear from you all.

the point of additional chains is to prevent discs from spitting out once they hit "the pole" dead center. if you hit the pole hard enough with single chains, you run the risk of a spit out. also, additional chains prevent discs from spitting out the backside of the basket

adding a second row of chains does not make the course easier, but rather, more fair

Making alterations to a PDGA approved basket, i.e. adding additional chains, makes it a non-approved PDGA basket.

The PDGA Tour Standards are attempting to require PDGA approved targets for certain tiers of events. Having non-approved baskets could eventually preclude a course from hosting certain PDGA events.

Just put a wig around the basket. I know I'd hit my putts everytime!

I think you can get chains from the company that made the baskets. That would make them approved.
