Tourney Trophy 5/14 - Texas High School Disc Golf Championship

Texas High School Disc Golf Championship

Presented by the City of Brownfield, The Levelland Lighthouse Disc Golf Club, and the Lubbock Windriders Disc Golf Club

Saturday May 14, 2011 – Coleman Park Disc Golf Course
2 rounds of 18 holes, lunch (provided) break between rounds
8:30 am Check-in, 9:00 am Players meeting, 9:30 am Tee-off

Current high school boy and girl students from Texas are welcome!
Format: Team and Individual Championships

TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP FORMAT: A minimum number of 5 players from a school will be considered a team
and eligible to compete in the Team Championship portion of the competition. Players must all be students
currently enrolled in high school(younger students may enter for the high school they will attend). Enter up to ten team members from one school (more students may sign up on a waiting list and may play if space allows). Using scores of best individual players, the combined 5 low scores of your team will be compared to the combined 5 low scores of the other teams. The team with the over-all lowest total score will win the Team Championship. Female players will play from the short tees and male players will play from the long tees. The top team will receive a trophy and medals.

INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIP FORMAT: You do NOT have to have a 5-person team to enter. Your score
from both rounds will go toward your Team score and your Individual score. The player with the over-all lowest
score for both rounds will win the Individual Championship. Individual players will be competing for medals. Medals will be awarded to the top 5 players.

Cost: $15 per player. Each entrant will receive a players package including a golf disc.
Pre-register by mail or register on-site day of event. Field is limited to 90 players!

Is this the first year? And if possible I think we should try to find or start a team here and support them. If the tourney is traveling I rethink we should consider running it.

I'm pretty sure that the team needs to all be from the same high school. However, individuals can enter and we should encourage that. I'm game for helping to support a local group if any area high schoolers are planning on entering.

I like the idea of having something like this in Houston too Patrick. I guess I like the way you rethink.

True dat! Since a lot of people think the Houston area courses are too easy for the more advanced players, then we should have plenty of venues that would be good for a tourney like this (assuming that the teams are beginner or mid-level players)...

We have discussed doing this in the past and maybe if we do a Houston school champs before the next tx one we can raise some awareness. Looks like it's time for a revisit.

This is a cool idea. I know some great high school players. I wonder if the local schools would allow me to advertise at a couple Spring schools to form a couple teams? What a great way to grow the sport.

Contact the principal at the schools and see what they say. I think you'd get further with them than the coaches.
