If you're new the Windwood (without the water) and Northside are fun to play, but both can be challenging. Terramont and Bear Branch up in the Woodlands are probably a little easier for a beginner. I would stay out of Oak Meadow (the Blackhorse reference). It's private and very challenging. Another couple of courses that are fun and not too punishing at TC Jester down off of 43rd and 290 and Moffitt and Hammerly and the Beltway. Both are a little far to drive, but enjoyable, especially if you're just getting started.

moffit is a fun course. don't let a post like this keep you away. there are some great people out there, a couple of my good friends live adjacent to the course. i'f you harbor resentment and let other peoples actions dictate your own mood, you'd do best to never leave the house.

Which if you're a beginner just getting into it, short short short (and very forgiving for a bad throw) is kind of nice.

Houstonbirdshot.com might help you see events and leagues. Keep throwing.
