I don't think there's anything prevent this other than paperwork.

Then there is the weather. Houston players can expect to play in 100° plus weather while folks playing in Wisconsin may enjoy temps in the 80°. That is a big factor in how people play.
That's taken into account by the ratings. Some places will have wind and rain, and some places will be fine. SSA is dynamically recalculated based on the play of rated players, so a course with an established SSA of 50 can play 2-3 strokes easier or harder based on day-of conditions.

Regardless, Birdshot is interested and should have a final answer as to if we are going to participate in the next few weeks.

Like I said... won't happen in Houston. But a smaller event could do it.

AM payout at this thing has potential to be pretty weak with the focus instead on player's pack. That makes it easier to persuade players to collude.

Unless you're a sponsored player with a deal tied to your rating there's no significant benefit to a higher rating other than pride. A lower rating lets you play more divisions.

Top Pro payout might end up being pretty decent.

Another aspect that is less than ideal is when your normally SSA=53 course has some bad weather the day of the event and elevates the SSA for that day to 54.5, which puts you over the event threshold and boots everyone on that course out of global competition. That becomes a big disappointment for the players and a big hassle for the TD.

Not to mention the mandatory online, fee-laden, entry.

from Chuck Kennedy:

Regarding manipulation, there are a few mechanisms in place to prevent it.
1. The payouts are skewed where the likelihood of cashing in local payouts is more likely and better than the global payouts due to all added cash going to local payouts.
2. Event fields will be large enough to make any kind of manipulation unlikely and not worth the financial implications. But...
3. We've had (little talked about) calculations in place to spot statistical anomalies in the numbers with small fields for a long time to maintain integrity in the regular ratings process. These will be applied to any events that end up with small fields of propagators (less than 10). We can simply eliminate an event from the global purse and rebate that amount back to the event to boost their local payouts which will screw the local players who tanked even more than what might have been gained.
4. As important as ratings seem to be to players, I think it would take much more money than the potential gain to persuade more than a handful of players to tank.

from Chuck Kennedy:

Regarding additional divisions, most places will fill 72 or 90 slots on one course with the divisions being included in the global event along with Rec and Novice players playing up into Intermediate to participate. However, some events will be adding a few other Am divisions as non-global participants, sometimes playing on another course.

As far as global payout for pros, it will be top 33% in each division paid from the $25 per player contributed to their division. It's still iffy whether any cash will be added to the pro global purses. The sum of your three round ratings is your global "score."

For Ams, most of the $15 to the global purse will go towards a player pack which at this point already includes two discs and a DVD. We'll have some additional CTP prizes and possibly something for first place. But little payout should be expected from the global purse with almost all of the Am payout being based on the amount in the local purse.

It wouldn't happen at a B-tier anywhere (which is a requirement for US based events)

Maybe a C-tier in Lithuania that only draws 25 players could pull it off.

Is that the same 13 they've had listed since February?

Birdshot isn't. We are open to the idea in the future though.

We have Black & Blue up in Huntsville at Shawshank that weekend though.
