I also was not aware of the land available for expansion over by the swimming pool. That makes me a little more amenable to a slight redesign on the short holes. We need to be careful that we don't utilize the pool as a nearby out-of-bounds area. We don't want to conk swimmers on the head with discs.
How about simply adding a new hole? Number 17 could be reversed so as to shoot to a cubby-hole basket back where the current #17 long tee is. Then a trail could be cut back through to a new #18 teebox that would be a long annie (for a rightie) shot back towards the old #18 tee (now the #19 tee), with the basket a little bit to the right around the corner of the woods. If we can raise money for concrete tee boxes, we should be able to raise money for a new hole. Interesting to see my idea for a creek hole has already been done somewhere. I'm a day late and a dollar short.

Just got off the phone with Aquaman. As he doesn't get on the board, I wanted to share his perspective, as he is a daily player out there.
He said that a backwards configuration has been quite interesting since the trees have been removed. With most of the downed trees gone, this seems to provide the most interesting course at this point. Just wanted to throw that out, as I agree that we need to keep basic design and send players who desire more challenge to other local courses. Let's play the crap out of our new championship course a TC Jester and start seeing our glass over half way full. Moffitt is just a way station in the life of a disc golfer, fun for the beginner and a nice up shot venue for the more skilled player if he chooses to come out. |

Here are a couple of the proposed layouts I made awhile back.

On that first pic, number 4 and 17 set like that seems a little dangerous. I know there is some tree blockage that helps but I can still see alot of potential for those to play on eachothers fairway.

I think 4s teebox will probably move over to the right and play the edge of the woods.

I know we (most harder than me) worked hard to raise money for concrete tees, and I guess for the club there is the need to deliver to all those we promised them to. But I wonder with the current state of trees, and the nostalgic appeal as well as appeal for beginners if we just left the tees natural for now, and revisited the idea of cement a few years down the road when planting is viable. An HFDS IOU so to speak and asked every big donor if we could put those funds to use in another HFDS supported course that needs concrete that isn't so affected by the drought. Just a thought.

Sheldon...I'm sure I speak for a lot of people when I say NO FREAKIN' WAY! A lot of effort has gone into raising the money for Agnes' concrete shoes the past year & no WAY should it go towards shoes for another park! A possible expedient redesign is in order, yes....then let's get this thing done!!! It's been promised for too long to back down on it now...waiting years (or even months) would be out of the question!

Yeah, what course in the area has NOT been effected by the drought?

Billy, just to make sure you know, I was just throwing out some food for thought. In the end any course that gets an upgrade makes my happy!!!!!! |
