The Commando Mini will be running this morning...

Conditions ought to be a bit on the challenging side this morning. Weather is showing a slight chance of rain, but really windy - 14 mph at the start and 17 mph by noon! The good news is that the temp is going to be a pleasant 76 degrees or so! Wow! Coolest weather we've had for a Commando since February or so???

Anyway I hope to see some of you out there this morning getting blown away on the course with me! Ha! See you at 9 am.

Cost is still $10 entry fee with optional $1 Ace Pot and up to 5 $1 mulligans. All mulligans go to HFDS for the baskets they've provided to expand the course to 21 holes.

Yikes!!!

Yes, the Commando Mini will be running this morning, and with this morning's cold-snap, we'll be running in place to keep warm too!

The winds are predicted to start out at around 14-16 mph but will calm down to a mere 11 mph by noon or so! Ha! Might be good jacket weather for us all.

Time: 9:00 am
Place: TC Jester course
Cost: $10 for entry plus optional $1 Ace Pot and up to 5 $1 mulligans.
(Mulligan fund goes to the club to repay the $1,500 the club spent to expand the course to 21 holes.)

I hope to see all of you out there at 9 am!

Even though I'm going to be out of town this weekend for Waterloo, Andrew Meyer has stepped up to run the Commando Mini this Sunday. Many thanks Andrew! You rock!

The place is still TC Jester.
The cost is still only $10 entry fee.
Ace Pot is still optional at $1.
Optionally, you can still purchase up to 5 mulligans for the round.
(Mulligan fund benefits the HFDS course improvement fund.)

Oh yeah, and the time is still 9:00 am.

Hope everyone has fun and the discs fly well for all of you. See you next weekend.

Yessir...The Commando Mini will be flying discs at 9am this morning!

Cost: $10 entry fee plus optional $1 Ace Pot and up to 5 $1 mulligans.

This is Houston's longest running mini tournament and the only mini around featuring 100% payout.

Weather forecast looks pretty good for this morning, not too hot and a little on the breezy side. Should make for excellent disc golfing conditions.

Hope to see everyone out there at 9.

Question Re: Commando Mini - Central at TC Jester

Now that you've been running with five mulligans for ~five months, do you find that the winners have typically bought max mulligans?

Most everyone is buying more than one mulligan...the amount varies depending mostly on how many extra dollars the player has in his/her wallet at the time. So I'd say that the winners are always buying some mulligans, but not necessarily the max amount. I'm seeing a lot of players that will pay $15 for entry fee, Ace Pot and four mulligans because they have a $10 and $5 bills in their wallet at the time.

Interestingly enough, I'm still surprised at how many of the mulligans used in play don't end up affecting a players total score. In other words, it turns out to be a bad use of a mulligan because it didn't save the player a throw. Miss a putt, mulligan is called and the mulligan throw misses too!

The bottom line for the club however is going to be pretty big. In the first six months, the Commando raised about $250 for HFDS. I caught up my books a couple weeks ago, and I'm estimating that the last six months will raise around $450.

Since my goal of fund-raising with the Commando is aimed at paying the club back the $1,500 the club spent on providing baskets for the Jester expansion, I can see reaching the goal a lot sooner with the extra muilligan method. At $250 every six months (the old way) it would take about 3 years to raise $1,500. With the multiple mulligan way, it will be about a year and a half. I'm sure that once baskets are paid for, we'll probably want to turn aound and raise money for concrete tees...and that project will have a lot higher price tag.
