Seems like a good idea would be to add a $2 tourney fee and then just payout 100% of the entry fee after the PDGA player fee is taken out.

I dont know the relationship between you guys and your vendor but it would also make sense to get a small cut of the profits from disc sales coming from payout to pay expenses etc and/or invest in your own stock of discs which would generate profit from the payout plus straight up disc sales. Pocket the profits or put them (or some) back in to make the events even better then they are.

Selling tournament shirts is a good way to gain some extra income on the events too. I know a guy...

Our vendor (DG Consultants) is also our title sponsor & believe me...they have been very generous giving back to us over the past year, whether it be monetary or equipment. We never started this thing to make money, so we didn't really want to invest in a disc inventory (we never would have had the start up money to even do that). Basically we started Birdshot to offer local tournaments geared toward the recreational players & to do much needed course maintenance. If we grow, we grow....some people just seem to miss out on our intent in the first place.

I know you guys intent and its great that someone stepped up. Its tough to find people who are willing to take the lumps and keep moving forward, especially just for the love of the game.

I just speak of profit as any extra monies that you can generate through running the events. What is done with that money is 100% birdshot's business and no one should ever question that.

My goal in offering any advice is too help make sure that you guys keep going.

And Scooter, with the numbers of novice, rec and intermediate level players turning out to the birdshot events, you should really consider following them as much as you can and hold some clinics ( if they dont mind). At a few dollars a head you could probably make your entry fees back at each event(if not more) and it would go along way in helping some players get over the hump to one day start beating...err donating to you in Open

Can I ask why you guys try so hard to pay the Min 85%?

I really think this issue sucks and it kinda explains why very few Pros show up. Also It isn't right that I have to pay $5 and someone else pays $2.
I have no idea how you can argue that this is fair when we are all using the exact same facilities.

You guys should look at Discraft's tournament deals!!!!!!!! Best deal you can get at about $6 per disc with extras goodies added in.

Admittedly I'm not a religious reader of the PDGA forum. (Their software is archaic and absurdly slow. Their search function also blows.) How many times have you raised this issue with the PDGA? What is their stated rationale for such an unjust policy?

Bashing Birdshot guys for not following the rules is one thing, but now it seems some have evolved into bashing them for following the rules...

I'd also like to hear these answers.

Also, I'd like to know why a series of 1-day C-tiers is charging a $5 fee for day-of signup.

Why are we charging a $5 fee for day-of registration? Well...mostly to encourage people to pre-register so they don't have to pay the $5 fee! I guess you could call it a fund-raising fee....and I guess it's not unlike some club concerts you go to (where the ticket price if you buy ahead of time is cheaper than what you would pay at the door). Maybe we should turn it around....maybe we should go up $5 on our fees UNLESS you pre-register, in which case you get a $5 discount. In that respect, what's the difference & what's the big deal? The incentive here is to train you people to pre-register anyway....but leave it open for the very few people who can't decide or find out until the last minute. I thought we were reaching a compromise here...maybe I was wrong!

I can see where this is going. I guess it was stupid of me to assume that this new policy would make everybody happy. I guess I've had trouble all along not understanding why a player would NOT want to pre-register...unless it was because of work or financial reasons. The fair weather players...well, no comment on that aspect. We're moving forward with this & we'll see how it goes...I will try to be optimistic.

Personally I think it is a fair policy.
