I'm throwing together a quick and easy Mixed doubles tournament for Valentines Day (Feb 14th) at Research Park in College Station.
Starts at 2pm and will be over around 4 or 4:30 Only $10 per couple, cash payout to top placements, all $ in is paid back out with the idea that winners will get enough to maybe pay for a nice dinner. Two divisions to choose from Division A (both partners have played the game a good amount) Division B (One partner plays, the other is pretty new or has never played before) One partner must be a female or a kid 10 years or younger. 2 rounds of 9 holes from the short tees, with a break and snacks in-between. Also a few side games with prizes. Format is Best shot but you must use at least one throw per partner per hole. I think this format will work pretty well from the short tees even with two partners of very different skill levels. Most holes from the shorts are about 200' to 250' so if the better partner is able to park his/her drive close enough for the 2nd partner to make the putt, then birdies are possible with equal participation on both players. I may add in a few holes at the end of alternating shot. VERY IMPORTANT...please "pre-register"... in other words, email me to tell me you are coming so I have a headcount and will know how many trophies to make up ahead of time. discgolf@tomyocky.com Hope some of you can make it. If you are "between partners" at the moment, bring your mom. or use this message board, maybe somebody has a spare kid hanging around that you can pair up with. Tom: Team Hopper had a great time at your tournament yesterday; thanks for organizing it!
I made my disc golf debut and was fortunate to have the Toy Cannon as my partner; we had so much fun together. But it was quickly obvious why I'm better at photography than disc golf! Susan |

Thanks guys and gals for coming up for that. It was a pretty good turnout for a last minute little casual event. I had a blast and it was great to see all those significant others out there playing disc golf with us. I'll have to make it a yearly thing.
I plan on holding more mini tournaments of non-standard format like that (doubles, acerace, single disc, etc) mixed in-between my regular monthly PDGA tourneys. I'll do my best to not conflict with the birdshot minis but that may be impossible some months. See everybody out at Snowfarm this coming weekend. -Tom |

Hi Tom,
Do not worry about conflicting with Birdshot minis. They are of lowest priority and their main purpose is to keep an eye on the 9 basket courses in the area for maintenance issues and for newbies to see what a tournament is like. We certainly encourage players to come out to our minis that enjoy playing those courses and like a small cash payout. I know the Houston area players love your tournaments Tom and will support them wholeheartedly. You are doing wonders with the College Station / Bryan area courses Tom. Keep those tournaments coming! So everybody, Stop Your Crying!
