I took a very long break from playing the past few years and have been back at it for a few months now and I must say that the moffit boxes are just unacceptable. Back in the day several of us would go out about once a month with hand tools and gussy up the boxes the best we could with what we had. I know there is still a small pile of the agrigate over by the tee for 18 and it wouldnt take much to move that into a few of the boxes that really need it and then work the boxes left the best we could. Anything would be an improvement at this point. With the amount of new people that play out there now I would think it would be pretty easy to get several people togather to do this. This board doesnt seem to have the majority of golfers signed up or even reading for that matter,so it leaves me to wonder how effective it would be to post up a date to get togather to bust a move on the problem. I think it would be great to set up a place on here for people to identify issues and then plan the attack. Anyone?

i would think the first step would to be to clean them up a little for the time being, then try to do some lobbying with the houston parks and rec dept to see if they would let us install our own set of tee's.
just out of curiosity, for people that have maybe tried this before either here or at other city owned parks/courses, what have been the arguments against concrete tees? however you are definitely right stating that the community should probably get together and plan a sort of "attack". im not really sure how to go about any of this but i am more than interested in what people might have to suggest. -austin |

Theres been many attempts over the years to put new boxes in and they were all shot down as far as I know. I still think rubber tee pads are the way to go. Also i would say its time for a total redesign.

Saw Conrad yesterday (was taking pics of the boxes.... so maybe he has something in the works). He's already got a workday in mind for the existing
boxes. personally i'd rather move the boxes regularly. The gravel usually provided doesn't seem to hold for long with the amount of use the park gets. I throw behind the existing boxes anyways. |

The Parks Dept is interested in soccer, baseball, basketball, and swimming. The reasons for not allowing us to install, at our expense any type of permanent concrete pad was the dammage they expected to their tractors when they mow. Lame excuse at best, but only real reason I've ever been aware of. It never made sense, given many parks have pads for picnic benches, and we have tons of examples of where they work in conditions much like HOuston.....Riverside Park in Victoria is good example,as they have flooding from the river from time to time. ======= With the new school going in, we are poised to have our best opportunity to make real improvements (aka redesign and boxes). We need to see what is planned in conjunction with the school. Are they going to put in walking trails, etc. I know when they installed that expensive park sign on the corner that they had to have a bigger agenda than what was apparent at the time. Let's see what we can find out about that and go from there. As for maintance on the current boxes...............I vote for moving them instead. Don't see how we can fix what we have without major resources. |

Poison SueMac! ![]() In fact, I haven't been involved other than as a volunteer working on the boxes from time to time. When we installed the alternate boxes, etc. Old School folks.............Stimpy and most of all I think Andi has had the most impact on the course even being there to begin with. I do not talk with forked tongue, and just have a major case of middle aged passion for Moffitt. It was where I was introduced to disc golf oh so many years ago (not that many!)
