Default New course in north Houston

There is a new course in north Houston - north of Spring Cypress on Kuykendahl at Northside Christian Church. Really nice little 9-hole course, and probably the best church course in Houston. The pins are DGA and are in, but the boxes are currently only marked with flags.

Anyway - thought you may want to know - here is the link on DGCR.

Flags won't last very long. We should contact the church and see if it would be okay to put in wood posts. Birdshot would be glad to buy the lumber (5 of 4"x4"x8') cut them in half with Mean Gene's skill saw at an angle. About 4 bags of quikrete should do it. Just need to plan a morning to put them in. Wait, its coming to me. A Sunday morning before the Commando mini (7 am)? Whoever gets the okay from the church first, post here and then we can plan which Sunday. Billy and I only have 2 shovels, so bring your own shovel.

I don't think they would want you there on a Sunday morning when people are arriving for Church

If you read Steve's review, he indicates they still have plans for improving the course, including concrete tee boxes, alternate tees, and signage.

If you just do a good job of tamping in the post about 2' deep, then you don't have to worry about concrete. (additional cost) If a tractor hits it just set it back in place and tamp it again. If you concrete the post in the ground and it is hit by a mower, it breaks, you dig it up and re-concrete it, no brainer. Many of a fence for miles was put in with no concrete, just good old tamping. Many at Bass and MacGreagor are that way. If you have a course that they use weed eaters around the tees and post, then put them in concrete. Just do a good tamping job and they are also easy to move, in the case of Tom Bass where the boxes need to be moved sometimes, makes it easy without using flags, just move the post. I guess I am just against concreting in tee post because I have had to dig up and replace too many on the Houston courses. OMGoodness

Sheldon emailed me back about this course today. He told me he has been working with Andi and Dave Young with the course design and that the signage should be going in ASAP (like this week or next). Makes me feel good since Andi's signage at Oak Meadows is great. In addition - it also makes sense then that the concrete work should be similar - which means nice big 6 x 12 boxes.

One question - why doesn't Andi ever post or notify people about the courses? I talked to church members who said the baskets have been in since around April!!! Just like when Oak Meadow went in - I lose out on 3 months of play because I have to discover the course be accident. I would think the designer would want people to know about and play the course. Hmm... could be just me I guess.

You must not read the board very much.................she prefers to leave the board to the mutts who show love and admiration so quickly.

This isn't the "we love Andi" board.

Actions speak louder than words..............and she's way way too busy to post anything but the most important information. Given this is located in a church, she may have wanted it to be more word of mouth to begin with.

I'll have to ask her.

Actually no, I try not read the board very much since I don't want to get caught up in all the crap, but alas do occasionally have a question for the more informed - and I enjoy a good response, so thanks!

Too bad - I think her tactics may be a bit flawed but to each there own. Thanks for letting me know.
