We have used the media before, both television and newspaper the result was no outstanding. I think it would be worth another try, can't hurt. You know in the public's eye we are just a bunch of hippies, not to offend anyone I was one too until my hair divoced me, until the PDGA does their part in promoting this sport in the U.S. as they should and have the funds to do so. We at the local level are fighting a very tough battle in economic hard times for most. I know if my neighbors here in hicksville saw disc golf in the papaer or on the news it wouldn't even register. For the most part the majority is not as passionate about the sport as the chosen few. Where is the great disc golf video game for X-box or Playstation or this thing I mess with. No money to be made by these large companies, There just aren't enough disc golfers. But let's get onward not backwards. hoist the sails, I don't like Blow boats so I'll take an engine please on me craft.

I feel that 90.1fm is a great medium for us to take. I have called in and donated some cash and got my name on the air and had a bunch of discgolfers call in and donate as well. I have thought about contacting them to do a fundraising tournament for them as well.

Matt, do you know the guys over there well enough to make some headway? If so, that is something we should look into.

Duane Bradley...KPFT's station manager & disc golf player....is actually a good friend of mine. I spent a little over 15 years as a programmer there back in the day/daze & actually worked with Duane on his first show. The tricky thing with Pacifica is that being commercial free, you have to be careful not to have anything seem like an advertisment. If they have a forum for announcements for local events, it would probably need to be for a charity. Announcing a Birdshot tournament would probably be against the rules. Now....a fundraiser for KPFT would be an entirely different thing! Being a KPFT alumni, I'd be delighted to host a fundraising tournament for the station. And believe me...if we did such a thing it would be aired ad nauseum by the station, because that's the sort of thing they play between shows instead of commercials. Are there enough players out there that would be willing to play for fun(d)? Give me some feedback on this...Billy "Birdshot" Gilbert

Thumbs down Re: PDGA tournament in 09?

Hey Mr. Blue,

Willie at Woodlands wants the tourney to be on Memorial Day weekend, Labor Day weekend or between Christmas and New Years. He says there is nothing going on at the sportsfield at those times. Also, no concessions at the tourney because they supply the concessions. Thats all I can think of for now.

Chuck,
Well then, sounds like the best course of action would be to make the first do it between Christmas and New Years. If that is okay by you guys, then I would gladly lead the charge to get the ball rolling in any arena possible. Right now I will gladly lead the sponsorship role. As promised, my companies will sponsor one hole, and I have another group of North Siders who have pledged to sponsor a hole as well. So..... that puts forth $300 towards the goal. Who next? Let's take a page from Tarrazar's good efforts and start the count to make this happen. Chuck, what's it gonna take to make this happen? BTW, I'll be out tommorow for the mini, so we can further this discussion.

Bear Branch Tournament Sponsors
1. CTD Labs
2. Nutrition Depot
3. Montgomery County Chain Gang

Steve Dufrane has pledged to sponsor 2 more holes. This takes us to $500. That is almost 25% of what we are looking for.

What do you need to Sponsor a hole? I might talk to my boss and see if I can get my company to sponsor one.

Each hole is a $100 sponsorship. C'mon aboard. We're ready to take anybody who is willing to sponsor a hole.
