Besides, the course has been significantly redesigned since I played it last. They got Andi and Don out from Disc Golf Consultants to help them make the course safer and better. It's now a six hole course so the concerns that I posted in my review have pretty much all been addressed. I haven't had a chance to get back out there for another round, but I'm hoping to in the next week or so. |

It occurred to me today that I've received a lot of negative comments about my review of this course both here and through PMs. Most of those comments are coupled with the suggestion that I should cut the church some slack and give a big hooray because they actually put a course in.
Here's the thing. I do not feel that my review was overly harsh. I felt it a fair assessment of the course as I played it. I don't care if the course was put in by a church, a boy scout troop, a merry band of orphans or the local chapter of the Porn Actor's Guild; a poorly designed course is a poorly designed course no matter who put it in. As a disc golfer I'm going to review the course for other disc golfers on its merits as a course. Now, here's the funny thing. For the past few months I've been working with Steve Green and the city of Taylor Lake Village to put in an 18 hole course on the north shore of Clear Lake. I posted a thread about the course when we were still collecting donations and took all kinds of abuse about not having a professional disc golf course designer involved (we since had Andi & Don Young and Jake Walsdorf come and lend input). Would I have taken so much heat if I told everyone that we were building a course on church property instead of a gorgeous city park? Lesson learned: Next time I work hard to get a course in, I'm going to tell everyone it's a church course because people aren't willing to hold churches accountable for not doing things right. Not that I'm not going to do things right; I just want a free pass from all the criticism. |

don't let it be an open book. Use the 'stay tuned for more details' approach.

Yep,
It's hard for those who just want to tell you how to do it, to do that when they don't know what your doing...

Free pass,
you are on the wrong forum, criticism comes with the territory. Good luck and just do your best. Once people start playing the new course you have got installed is when you will either get criticism or praise, be prepared for either and don't let it get to you, just part of the game. Everybody has an opinion and should be able to speak their mind, exept DG Jesus, we all know his take on things may be very slanted and off base. ![]()

Read your quote in Lous reply Chris...
Did you give the Memorial Drive Baptist church a free pass on the criticism? I think you bashed it pretty good not only here but also on the google page you put together to beat their effort up with. No skin off my back brother, that course is not mine. But maybe think about treating others as you wish to be treated, would be sound advise. |

When you take away all that I wrote and just leave the last statement then you lose all the context (in this case, the sarcasm of that last sentence). Obviously I don't want a free pass from the criticism; I was complaining about the double standard that churches get on this board. Why should any of us hold back on being critical of a poorly designed course just because a church put it in? Why? Because people don't hold churches to the same standard as others. Why do you imply that the map I made of the course as I found it was designed to "beat their effort up with"? The church came up that layout, all I did was share it online with a map. Are you suggesting that making a map of a church course is not an acceptable thing to do? What about courses designed by Boy Scouts, can we make maps of thier courses without being accused of beating the boy scouts? Please explain this double standard, because I think it's a load of bull excrement. |

Well you missed the point completely.
I never said give them a break because they are a church. I said stop by and thank them for building a course, offer to help them if they would like the help. I see Andi and Don did help them....thank you You played the course, and your immediate review was posted with criticisms like "Houstons most dangerous course" and "I didn't know the Baptist grew pot" Then someone else critiques your efforts and that's not ok? ![]() good grief is right man
