Ding! I get pissed every weekend that I can't go to what was my home course. Look at the newer courses in town though. The course design is on the upswing. Just look at the past couple of years with Spring Valley, Oak Meadows(those bastards), and Quail Valley.

Course upkeep helped Spring Valley out because it was HORRIBLE initially. Oak Meadows is the best piece of disc golf property I have seen but I think the course could have still been a little better with scoring separation. |

absolutely it could be better and probably have more than one out there. It is still a great course to play. The picnic area and bbq pits are top notch, and I miss being able to go out and cook up some steaks on nice summer afternoon. The nice view of the man made lakes

I was interested in reading about the Conroe course, since I travel north most times to play, but it seems the discussion swung again into the Oak Meadows course being private and the frustration this has caused.
Most would agree, that OM is probably the very best piece of disc golf property in town - but it is private - and it is going to stay that way - it's a shame, but it is what it is. OM should be an inspiration to all Houston area disc golfers - that really good courses can be produced here (although natural elevation is obviously a challenge here) there is only one reason why we can't have more great courses here. That reason is because we don't unite and build them. I'm not trying to drum up people for my proposed course here - it stalled with only 5 other people than myself volunteering to build a hole and I'm ok with that, maybe it moves forward, maybe it doesn't But it's a wake-up call. This board is now 74 strong as of last count and amazing things can be done by 74 people. What if..... What if each member on this board registered for the area of town which they live - Northwest, Northeast, Southeast, Southwest and each of those 4 groups held a monthly meeting and discussed sites within their area that could host a great course and put a plan together that worked for them to get one built? If you look at Churches, Schools, Colleges and Parks there is no doubt in my mind each group could find a really good spot and make it happen. There are several courses in town that are a waste, some aren't even in playable condition and maybe even those baskets could be re-claimed for a new course. Accepting the reality of places like OM will stay private, realizing it's going to take a movement from within to change and better the situation, stop relying on just a few individuals to build courses for us and realize "The City" isn't chomping at the bit to build anymore either. Also some courses have just outlived themselves. Saying we have 18 courses in town, but only 4-5 are good ones is not something to brag about. Coming to terms with this, not only being willing to unite and get involved, but really participating in that movement, is the only way we're going to get more than 1 new course every 10 years. The only reason a city this size isn't getting new courses, is because "we" are building them together. I'm Tarazarr and I approve this message - would appreciate your vote in November

Yah I see land all over the place but we dont have permission to use it. You have to get approval first.

Approval is not worth anything if you don't have the people to make the vision into reality.
Of all this land you see, surely approval could be attained for one piece, but it isn't going to happen as long as we are all sitting around waiting for someone else to do it. I live on the northwest side of town and here is my challenge - If you live north of I-10 and west of IAH airport then your in my group "the Northwest group" let all of the 74 board members who live in this area identify yourself as being in this group, lets see who all we have in this group and start there. It's a start and lets move forward one step at a time from there. Systematically, one step at a time we can make it happen. Who else is in the group? A journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step |

that land is for RETAIL or Housing so back off! You have got to be old enough to know there is too much money to be had by building something on this land then giving it away to a group of frisbee players. Houston is about $$$$$$$ and more $$$$$$$.
I would like to see all this passion go towards making the world a better place not just your back yard. |

oh well...everyone back to their regularly scheduled P&M wondering who's going to replace the three missing basket chains at such and such park and why did so and so get grouped with so and so, it hurts "my" rankings....blah, blah, blah...you know the stuff that matters...
Sorry for the interuption
