Karen Derr Candidate for Houston City Council, At-Large Position 1 Response to the Disc Golf & Candidate Questionnaire 1. Do you support disc golf? Derr’s Response: Sure. 2. Do you support the use of City of Houston park land for disc golf? Derr’s Response: Yes. 3. Are you aware that disc golf is environmentally friendly? Derr’s Response: Yes. I am familiar with the course at T.C. Jester park. 4. Are you aware that Houston, Texas hosted the 2002 Disc Golf World Championships? Derr’s Response: Glad to hear it; was not aware. 5. Do you support the use of private donations to improve, expand and install disc golf courses on City of Houston park land? Derr’s Response: Yes. 6. Do you support the use of public funds to improve, expand and install disc golf courses on City of Houston park land? Derr’s Response: Where there is interest, I do. Disc golf seems to be low cost and wildlife, bird watchers, etc. can still enjoy the land when not in play. 7. Are you aware that disc golf is a family friendly sport that offers a high benefit-to-cost ratio both for recreation departments and citizens of all ages and backgrounds and that playing an 18 hole round of disc golf requires walking for approximately 1 and 1/2 hours and burns approximately 700 calories through low-impact aerobic activity? Derr’s Response: Yes. I am familiar with T. C. Jester Park and often see players having a great time. 8. Are you aware that disc golf has grown at the rate of 10% per year for the past 20 years? Derr’s Response: Was not aware. 9. What can you do to promote the interests of disc golf in the Houston, Texas area? Derr’s Response: Demonstrations, publicity through the Super Neighborhood programs. 10. Why should the disc golf community in Houston, Texas support your election campaign? Derr’s Response: I am a candidate who supports utilizing Houston's vast holding of green space and raw land for flood water retention/remediation while always incorporating recreational opportunities and healthy activities into these projects. I am concerned about Houstonians' health and obesity rate. Last edited by bettercounsel; 11-01-2009 at 10:23 PM. Reason: Spelling |

Of the candidates we had listed here whom said that they'd support DG, I think we only had one solid winner and two in will be involved in run-offs.
Guess we'll have to wait a bit longer to see how much DG support we've got elected this term. Thanks for all of the good info Richard! |
