Default New Course opportunity

Hey I just heard the city of Clear Lake has bought back the Clear Lake Golf course but are not planning on using the land for anything. There is enough land on this golf course for 4 championship disc golf courses. This would be a great opportunity for someone to make a case to the city to put in a nice disc golf course on some really nice land!

I've already started talking to the Clear Lake Water Authority about installing the second Day-of-Course layout permanently. The land is going to be used to improve flood control in the area but there is no reason disc golf can't be part of that.

I figure this would be the best place for this comment...

I'm looking for photos of disc golf courses located in flood control and retention pond areas. Specifically photos that include residential houses as well as disc golf baskets/players. If you know of any courses that fit this bill, or have photos please let me know.

Most of the courses (in fact most of the nice parks) in the Phoenix area fall in this category.

This one is a big bowl that holds flood water when it rains.

This one has some pictures with water on the course.

This course is affectionately nicknamed "The Ditch".

Texas Army Trail's first 4 holes are accross or next to a retention pond. There are no residential houses nearby (because it is a flood plane).

Many thanks all.

The Water Authority is going to eventually use the property of the old golf course for flood relief in the Clear Lake Area. I'm going to use these examples to show the CLWA that disc golf can meet their recreational goals without being impacted by the flood control plans.

I went to the board meeting tonight and things went well. The CLWA has a lot of planning decisions to make on how to best use the property. The main agenda is for flood and drainage control through retention ponds. I said there was no reason that disc golf couldn't be a part of the food control plan. I will continue to work with the board to keep disc golf on the agenda out here.

The CLWA board was very positive about the Day-of-Courses events that I've been running out on the property and I got permission to keep doing them until the final plan gets implemented. Looks like I'm going to have to start thinking about Day-of-Course 4.
