Default Ian Hovey

I was watching a youtube video about the 2011 Pro Worlds, when I saw a notice that Ian Hovey had passed away. I am shocked. He was only 21 years old. Does anyone know what happened? I feel so bad for his family. Nicole and I will keep them in our prayers.

Default Re: Ian Hovey

John Hovey sent out Ian's obituary just a little earlier today, and below this is a quick email from Laura Coffey with much the same info about the service and afterwards…

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. Ian Christopher Hovey, 21, left this life on August 6, 2011 in South Riding, Virginia. Son of John and Laura Hovey, he was born on March 31, 1990 in Austin, Texas. As a small child, he was an expressive and heartfelt speaker even before having any command of the English language. Later, he was "hooked on phonics". Ian was a natural born athlete and artist, living life to the fullest. He was raised on Austin disc golf courses, having strolled his first round in Zilker Park at 2 days old. Happiest in the midst of Mother Nature and all she had to offer, Ian considered Pease Park his home course. He considered its loss irreplaceable to Austin Disc Golf. Disc golf was his passion, the drive of his life, his peace among the trees. Having competed in his first PDGA Amateur World Championship in 2004 and his first Pro World Championship in 2006, Ian played and competed all over the country with his parents. Always willing to share his love and acceptance of players young and old, Ian made new friends wherever he travelled in life. He thrilled us with his tenacious spirit. Let us never forget all he brought to our lives.

To cherish his memory, Ian leaves behind his parents, his sister, Lauren Hovey, his "big brother", Billy Hyatt, a myriad of aunts, uncles, grandmothers and cousins, an enormous disc golf family, and friends too numerous to mention. Visitation at All Faiths north location, North IH 35 on Monday, from 3-6 pm, services from 6-8. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend and share their memories. We will play a few holes at Northtown after the service as the sun sets, and we'll meet at Hanover's in Pflugerville for a toast.

Our baby "Trog", "Great Gig in the Sky", he brought tears to our eyes and forever warmed our hearts. He was a bright light. He was our son, our brother, our nephew, our cousin, our dear friend - our boy in the park throwing plastic circles, in front of the stage, tearing up the dance floor. We will never be the same. He challenged our patience but made us laugh and cried with us. He touched our lives. We were proud to have known him.
