Lightbulb PDGA Sanctioned Leagues

Expect an article on this coming to the PDGA homepage pretty soon...

The following quotes have been made by Chuck Kennedy on the DGCR forum:

Quote:
I think what you'll see is more and better rule calling if a league does sanction as PDGA. That will be the choice of the league directors to sanction or not. Members overwhelmingly have wanted more opportunities for rated rounds and leagues is a way for them to get them. There will never be any more than 52 weekends available and weekend events are getting close to maxing out in major DG areas like NC. It's a big boost for members when they can get more value out their membership with leagues becoming available. Since payouts will not be tracked, ams will be able to accept cash in leagues without losing am status.
Quote:
You could probably run a league where only those who wanted to participate in sanctioning would do so as long as you could count on enough PDGA propagators each week to produce ratings. You would only upload the scores to the PDGA site for those players who were paying for the PDGA league.

I think an easier way to do it might be to sanction the Pro and Advanced divisions (maybe Int) and not sanction the Rec and/or Novice divisions. If the Rec/Novice players wanted ratings, they could just play up in Intermediate. BTW, you don't have to play in the same division each week which also adds some flexibility.
Quote:
$25 sanctioning plus 50 cents per person per week to PDGA and 50 cents to League Director for admin costs and/or league final payouts.
Quote:
Leagues will be maximum of 12 weeks and a new cycle will start every three months. So you could do four separate sanctions ($100 total) to basically cover a year.

The Southwest Handicap Mini will be giving this a shot.

Yay more skimming!!!!

Personally I'd rather see my money stay local and go to HFDS basket/teepad fund.

Southwest handicap Mini, how does that workout with the rated Leagues?

League's that I have been around you pay in 1x for a set period of weeks and Mini's you pay every time.

The reason I ask, pdga is offering a 30% off new membership if you join a rated League.

Jim, the following points should address your concerns.

The PDGA says the League Director sets the per day cost of their own league:
Quote:
What does it cost to play in leagues?
The TD determines the basic entry fee per day for each league division. The TD adds $1 fee to each of those entry fees which is paid by each player whether PDGA member or not. From that $1 fee, $0.50 goes to the PDGA and $0.50 goes to the TD to help with their league expenses, compensation and possibly final league prizes. The fee to sanction as a PDGA league is $25.

FYI: In the SWHC Mini the "$0.50 that goes to the TD" is not going to me, but to the TxSDGC or IceBowl fund.

The PDGA has said that players do not have to commit to any specific number of weeks to play. So showing up to as many as you want effectively equates to a "mini" format:
Quote:
Players do not have to commit to play any number of nights to participate just like most other leagues. Show up and play one time and paying your fee for just that night is fine.

Thanks for the feedback, interesting concept from the PDGA. I can pay 7 dollars and get a rating, or pay around $50 at a C-tier and get a rating. I guess the good side, Minis are going to get serious...

Note that official ratings are only visible if you're a current PDGA member. If you're not a member they still track your ratings, but you can't see the official ones until you join up. Like standard events everyone can see the unofficial ratings until they get processed into official ones.
