First let me say that I am so proud of Chuck Haney and his crew for getting TAT up and running. Its a pro level course and a welcome addition to that area of town. Now its time for the Northside to get in on the fun. The problem is that the precinct we live in (Precinct 4) has no disc golf courses and we are relegated to private courses (Northside, Stonebridge, Windwood) or the courses in the Woodlands which are fun but do not provide a Pro Level Experience. It is now time that we get such a facility and I know just the place. Its the old Cypreswood Golf course and it is spectacular, untouched and ready for Pros to come and design it (thats you Dixon, Jim, Dave, Alex and others). All we need is a groundswell from our community and some hard work and I believe we can persuade Precinct 4 that Disc Golf is here to stay and that they can provide not only the best disc golf course in Houston but in the State. All I need from my fellow Northsider is an email and great things to say about our sport. Here is the Precinct 4's new Commissioners email address commissionercagle@hcp4.net. Write him, alot !!!! Make our voices heard, we can make this happen if we try, I truly believe that. Oh one more thing, for this to happen we will need volunteers and if possible someone with a 501 C 3 non profit tax exemption. If we have these two things their is no way we can fail. NORTHSIDE UNITE!!!!

Hello Commissioner, * My name is Terry Straub and I am contacting you on the behalf of a rapidly growing, strong group of good people in Precinct 4. I represent this region’s Disc Golf community and I believe it is time that Precinct 4 joins the other precincts of Harris County in their efforts of providing Disc Golf courses to this region of the country. It is my belief that Precinct 4 has the resources and the land to host the premier Disc Golf courses in not only the city but the state as well. * First let me address the resources. Disc Golfer’s in general are a resourceful and resolute bunch and our dedication to the sport we love is in my opinion unmatched. That is why I offer that for any Disc Golf course approved by Precinct 4 we will provide the labor free of charge to install said course. That includes, clearing brush, installing teepads, installing baskets and any other general labor that goes into the creation of a course. We have at our disposal resources such as baskets that will allow us to get a course in the ground quickly without any overhead provided by the county. Also due to our growing league and tournament presence in this region we are able to raise large amounts of money for any other infrastructure that may be needed. * Secondly, of course is the land and that is where you come in. I have spoken in the past with Dennis Johnston about the abandoned Cypresswood Golf Course Facility that the precinct currently holds. I believe this to be the perfect location for not one but 2 world class courses. As I understand it, this land is already being mowed on a regular basis but at present has no use. Well I’m here to tell you that we in the Disc Golf community can make great use of this land with almost no cost to the county. All we require is that the land continues to be mowed and that someone opens and closes the property at a time set by the county. That’s it nothing more, nothing less. We are also aware of another abandoned golf course off of Cypresswood that was once owned by Raveneuax Golf club but is now in your possession. The same applies for that land as well. Both of these assets are at present not being used for anything and we believe they are prime real-estate for the finest courses in the state. * So what are our road blocks for this to happen? Well from what Dennis told me, Precinct 4 requires a concession stand to be manned at all times and working restroom facilities. Addressing the first hurdle, I believe is a simple one. Very few Disc Golf courses have concession stands as most players bring their own water and snacks. We do not require this type of facility and would only need them for tournaments which happen once or twice a year. Thus a county employee would only need to be their once or twice a year to provide concessions. Secondly is the issue of the bathrooms, well the Cypresswood facility already has toilets and outhouses and they would just need to be refurbished either by us or by the county. If those are only two issues I believe they are small and completely surmountable. *Finally is the issue of someone monitoring the course. I believe that at max two employees would be needed to watch a course. Their wouldn’t be much for them to do other than clean the restrooms and open/close the course as disc golfers and volunteers would provide most of the maintenance needed. * * I have attached some good reading materials about Disc Golf, its benefits and its revenue potential. I have also attached the opening statement for a brand new Disc Golf course just opened by Precinct 3. It is of my opinion that if the other precincts can open pro level courses then there is no reason we cannot as well. I would encourage you to contact Precinct 3 and the other precincts and talk to them about the success they have had with Disc Golf. I believe you will find that not only is this something Precinct 4 should strive to want, but it is a facility that it absolutely needs to provide its residents an exciting and growing recreational activity. * * Thank you for your time, and take care. Terry Straub |

Nope, not the same spot, this land actually used to be home to a very large 18 hole ball golf course off of Cypresswood. There has been talk to converting it but so far it's just talk.

Contact Olse! After watching a video of the Roy G course I would say he is the only person who should be designing Pro courses in the state.
