As far as making our tourneys for AMs only, I know for a fact that there are quite a few open players who would be upset if we did that. I can only think of maybe two other people besides yourself who have complained about anything. As far as getting it right, we're trying our best. We haven't done anything with the intent of purposefully pissing people off....we just wanted to be able to have some local sanctioned tournaments without having to travel out of town. Since nobody else was doing it, we jumped into it & have been trying to learn as we go along. Maybe you & a handful of other people think we shouldn't have done it, but most of the people I talk to are glad we're here. We would welcome more experienced people to help us run these events & make them better. Hell, we would welcome someone else stepping in to run tournaments locally so we wouldn't have to do it! Or at least we could all trade off every other month or two. I've barely been involved playing this great sport for a little less than three years...I'm definitely not the expert (obviously). It's been a gas, though....even with the pitfalls & the bad mistakes (which we've tried to correct or improve as they come up). Maybe by this time next year we'll have our act together enough to attract the more "seasoned" participants like yourself, although as we've stated before we really started this to give ams a chance to play in sanctioned tournaments without having to drive 200 miles. We haven't actively seeked out sponsorships to make a nice big purse because that's never been what we're about.

The big purse isn't necessary as long as the event is run smoothly. Truthfully the Pro guys that would be upset about making your events AM only must have not read you mission statement as there is nothing in there about making more Pro events.

I don't care about the money or any of that other junk, they are all nice but the main thingh is that the tournament is well run and there is a decent field of players. Unfortunately with 70 players in 10 different division the 2nd is tough.

Since the afternoon round is 21 holes then we won't have to send any fivesomes out. Thanks to everyone who signed up & be glad that we don't do walk-ups...a lot of people would have wasted a trip. See you in the morning!

And a lot of TDs would have made 5 somes so that as many people as possible could get in. Maybe you and Chuck should give up your spots and just TD. I can't get on the PDGA but I think there are only two Pros signed up and G was trying to get me to go but now it is full.

I wasn't going to go anyway as that is a long drive and if you win the event you can't even cover your gas. At least at those Out of town events you can.

The way I see it is we need more Pros in this area and the way you become a pro is play more tourneys. Everyone has their own developmental timing to reach that level and some folks will never reach it. Players won't enter the Pro ranks until their game has matured.

And since we have a low Pro base here in Houston how else are players going to develop.

Lord knows unless you host an A teir with added cash, DFW and Austin Pros will not travel here for a Birdshot event. Maybe a few have over the year but not enough. Matt - you're stuck in a world of Am's down here for the time being until folks (young guns) develop more skills. And with the cost of playing anywhere but home courses, developing tourney skills is getting harder.

Chuck was a true green horn when he began running tourney's (he'll be the first to tell ya that). But it seems they are learning from past mistakes. That is part of it. That said; be sure to not make learned mistakes again. More importantly in my mind; is that they look to be having a good time with it. I can remember Gimp and Rick going burned out after a year of running tourneys.

I wish I had the time to run or even help Chuck and Billy run bigger/better events, but I don't. So I help by attending when I can. And if I see some thing I don't like I try to talk to them about it.

We are all on the right bus, and most are in the right seats, (I'm in the back making out with the cheerleaders) it 's just going to take some time to get the bus where we want it to go. I ask each of you, "where are you seated"?

Peace to all and remember to count your blessings. And when you go to sleep tonight in the A/C, think about Lee.

Players meeting 8:30, tee off 9:00 or so. I may not be a disc golf surfer, but I did surf in high school on a Weber pig. I have always thought that the disc golf surfers are really cool and l enjoy hanging out with them. They may not be active on the Internet, but they sure are active at Jack Brooks.

Thumbs up Re: You don't know jack brooks

Birdshot Dudes!!!

A great big THANK YOU and congratulations on another well run tournament with a decent field of players.

That had to have been the best run tournament in the whole world. And talk about a really decent field of players!!! That had to be the best field of players in the whole wide world. My great-grandmother and two of her cats passed away this past week and I told the family to move the funeral from Saturday because there was a Birdshot tournament at Jack Brooks park and I was sure it was going to be well run and that there would be a really decent field of players. My mom had never been to a disc golf tournament and she went today and she said that even though she didn't know a lot about disc golf but from her perspective, the tournement seem to be really well run and she said all of the disc golfers made up a what she considered a really really decent field of players. You may have not noticed her, she stayed in the truck most of the time. She's a little embarassed because she's having surgery on Monday. She's having female problems...she's starting not to look like one.

Cheryl just asked me to add something for her and I quote, "It was great to be out playing again and spending time with some really good friends. I regret missing the other tournaments earlier in the year. If I had known they were this well run and that the field of players was going to be so decent, I would have been out there sooner."

I guess what Cheryl and I are both trying to say is thank you for another fantastic day of disc golf. If spending time with old friends and just having fun with new friends isn't a big part of the reason you're out there, you're really missing a good time . . not to mention a well run tournament with a decent field of players.

Thanks again!

When the moment comes, take the last one.

Talking Re: You don't know jack brooks

Wow, what a great tournament with a decent field of players today. Fun was held by all and it was a great day to be with our disc golf friends. Although my 2nd round was horrible, esp. on hole F, I still had a great time. Thanks Chuck and Billy!

I know that C.J. had a GREAT time at the tournament, and Rick had fun, too (but more fun during the first round than the second!). Wish I could have been there to see my baby boy win the novice division! Thanks, Chuck and Billy, for running the Birdshot tournaments for the decent field of players!!

Gentlemen,
Thank you for running another great event. Congratulations to CJ for winning the novice division. To the naysayers of Birdshot, let CJ's development be measuring stick for what Birdshot was trying to get at this whole time. Without Birdshot tournaments, would CJ be progressing like he has? I don't know, but I do know that I was very proud that he won the novice division. (BTW CJ, Conall really looks up to you, and he sends his congratulations as well)
I would also like to say that while SV is my home course and my favorite course, I have always felt that Jack Brooks is the best after that. Jake, thank you so much for the effort you put into this venue. I eagerly await the finishing of the second course, as the holes we played from it yesterday were a great tease for me to come back soon.
Looks like the bar has been reset from SV to Jack Brooks. I told Dufrane he has his work cut out for him for next month. I know he's up for the challenge, and the Chain Gang is ready to assist. Chuck, Billy, flip the bird to those who don't get what you do. You guys have too many friends and supporters who back you to let he naysayers sway you. Keep up the good work.
