Jake,

I am not sure which hole it is but the first hole coming out of the woods on the new course could be redesigned a little. If I was counting the holes as of right now it would be hole 6.
There is not a open shot anywhere on the hole. You have to throw left over the water which is hard or hyzer high and hard and hope it doesnt go into the water. Maybe if there was an opening for people to run at it or even lay up, than it would a reasonable design and people wouldnt feel like it was a waste of time throwing that hole. It already is a short hole. Your thoughts please.

That's a good comment. I've wanted to look closer at that one. Thanks for stating your concerns.

I figured because it was a short hole that it was made difficult on purpose. You can always play a safe shot to the opening on the right & lay up for a par. The risk/reward factor comes in on your drive....yeah, it's a tough shot, but not impossible.

I agree that it is difficult and I like that about the hole. I am just worried that when sping and summer come along the hole will be completely covered and the only thing you can do is lay up. I think we can agree that people with a competitive nature dont like to lay up.

maybe that hole should be played backwards. not sure how that would change the flow. somethings does have to be done, i throw a sidearm, which works well, but have still lost several on that hole.

My thought was to back the tee up so your drive comes from across the ravine. Would basically be the same shot just a lot longer, and would be more of an up hill drive.

When in doubt, make it harder. I would love for Houston to get a handful of harder "championship style" holes. It would do us all good to have to get a little better in 2009. You have my support for longer/harder.

I'm trying to convince my brother we should go down there this weekend and play both courses. Will we be able to find our way around the 2nd course? I saw you said there was a map at the beginning, anything else to help us out. (I'm assuming the course information for the original course is still the same.)

It is not difficulty that makes a great or poor hole, it is risk vs. reward. On a hole that forces a layup, layup, putt it is basically a three unless you screw up. But if it becomes a hole where the two is there but the line is tough and it could turn it into a four easily, then it becomes a truly great hole.

David, right now there are flags but the holes aren't yet numbered...it would probably be confusing if you're not playing with someone who's been through there a couple of times already. If you were planning on coming out there Sunday, I'll be out there to run league (which starts at 1:00)...the past couple of weeks a lot of us have been going over to the second course after we finish league (usually around 3:00-3:30). I could probably be convinced to meet you guys out there earlier before league....say maybe 10:00? That way we could play & I'd still have time to eat some lunch before league starts....if you're interested give me a call at 832-659-8449.
