I'll be in Ft. Lauderdale, FL for 2 weeks begining October 24. Does anyone know friendly golfers down there I should hook up with?

Jake - I played about 4 rounds of golf at Tradewinds Park in Ft. Lauderdale. I really enjoyed it a bunch and managed to hook up with some locals there...they were a fun bunch. I seem to recall that they ran some kind of draw doubles most afternoons. I've slept once or twice since then, so I don't remember their names.

Look for one or two of my first run Valks down there...I lost a couple in the bayou! DOH!!!

They had a really fun little hanging basket on one of the holes...

Thanks Ching...
That's exactly what I wanted to hear. Since the pDGA site is down I'll have to wait to map the location of the course. Got any recommendations for Miami? I'll be there for Halloween ...

Jake, try DG Course Review. A far superior directory to the PDGA's. In fact there was a post on the PDGA message board directing people to use DGCR while PDGA was down.

Here's a link to take you to Lauderdale's map:

Hmmm...Miami, eh?

The very first time I ever played disc golf was in Coral Gables just South of Miami in 1976. (I think I read somewhere that it was the 3rd pole-hole course in the US.) I think it was a 9-hole course right on the Biscayne Bay. It seemed pretty cool at the time but then again we really had no idea about how to play the sport or its rules, or even what a good course should look like. We were just a bunch of sailors looking for some cheap entertainment. I think the park in Coral Gables might have been called JFKennedy Park or something like that.

I played the Ft. Lauderdale course in 2001 after I'd been playing here for a few years...it seems more comparable to a Moffitt-like course but maybe a bit longer. I think they had concrete tees at Tradewinds too.
