"Where: Camelot Park in Bryan, Texas (for directions see my web page "local courses" link)
When: Saturday December 20th, 2008 Late registration pay by 9:45am, check in by 10am. Players meeting 10am, 1st round starts at 10:30
What: Initial qualifying round of 9 holes to determine your starting position for the skins format. The better you score on your first round, the the higher the $ value of each skin you play for (and the better the players are you are competing against)
Then, 18 holes of skins play. Skins value will depend on # of entries in your division and your starting group based on initial qualifying round.

Who: Anybody and Everybody. Divisions for Men, Women, and Juniors of all ages and skill levels. Beginners are Welcome
With only 9 baskets, we are limited to 45 players, so to be safe sign up early.
Why: Because these events are a lot of fun. Meet new people who love Disc. Win trophies and/or prizes for various contests such as CTP's (closest to pin), Long Drive and Putting Contests.
Cost:
Juniors and Women = $10
Mens Novice = $20
Mens Intermediate = $20
Mens Advanced = $20
Must have 3 entries for a division to make. (Women or Jrs can choose to enter one of the Mens divisions if they like)"

Well we are not listed on the flyer which is why I ask.

Tom's events aren't sanctioned so I think his skill divisions are pretty loose. If you look at his first event the divisions were:
  • Women
  • Men's Novice
  • Men's Long
  • Big Arms
I don't think he's had any PDGA MPO players show up for his events before. But I'm sure he'd be glad to have you show up and would figure something out.

Matt, be sure to get clarification on whether or not Tom is running the skins as cash payout or credit for discs. His disc stock is all (or mostly all) Gateway. I'd hate for you to get there expecting cash and finding out otherwise later.

Glad to hear all the chatter about my upcoming tourney. Everybody is welcome, Pro or not. We have only one pro who lives out here (Rob Chandler..pro master) he has come out to one of my earlier events, but has been too busy to make the others. He played against the advanced players.
As it stands right now, my events are not PDGA sanctioned ...yet, I'm hoping to start that in late Jan (or Feb at the latest). So I'm mostly geared towards just my local College Station players who are nearly all ams, it's a developing area in regards to Disc Golf and general skill levels are not as advanced here as in Houson or other larger cities. However, I'm really happy some of my pals from the Birdshot tourneys are cool enough to drive on up, and any pros out there would be great to have too. I don't currently have a pro division per say, so if just one pro shows up then they are welcome to play the advanced ams division but payout is in plastic. However, if 3 pros were to come out, (or just 3 players who wanted to play for cash as a "pro") then I would be happy to make a pro division with cash payout. 3 is the minimum for a division to make. I'm not PDGA yet so there is no penaltys for ams who try playing for cash, (or for a pro to play against the Ams) Does that sound OK? To sum up, we would need 3 players wanting to play for cash to create a pro division, and I would have to take 15% out of the prize pool before cash payout, (I think that's a pretty standard practice) while the ams playing for disc credit get 100% of entry fees into their prize pool. I'm not at all trying to get rich doing these events (and even if I was trying to get rich, I'm failing horribly) but I need to bring in a little bit to pay for all my expences, prizes, awards, the discs I stock, and some goes towards buying more baskets for setting up future events.

Speaking of 3 in a division. I know of a lady from Austin who is coming out, and if Tiffany comes, that makes 2. I would really love for one more lady to show so I can have an official womens division. Here is some incentive...Entry for women is only $10 and I am boosting the womens prize pool by matching that $10 for each women entry. So that will make a 200% payout in the womens division. So if anybody else knows of a women they can bring along, please do so.

Back to the pro divison topic, If we make a pro division with strictly cash payout, I'd be happy to up the entry fee from $20 to $30 or $40 if all 3(or more) pros agree and wish to play for more $$$. Regardless, if you're a pro thinking about coming...please do so we will work something out.

Thumbs up Re: Next College Station tourney, Dec 20th, skins format

Quick Update...I heard from one more lady who claims she is coming...YEA! That's a big deal for me, this is the first time Ive ever had enough ladies show to make an official womens division.

Thanks, the dulcimers are super easy to learn. If you play guitar then you can play a dulcimer immediately. Dulcimers have most of the 1/2 note frets removed, and are tuned in a way that you never can make a sour note or bad chord.
You may be interested in knowing that I offer credit towards purchase of a dulcimer as one of the payout options if you don't want/need any more discs. For example, if you win $50 in payout you can buy $50 in discs with it or double that and have $100 towards a dulcimer. (you can save them up over several tourneys too). 3 $50 payouts would = $300 in dulcimer money and that would buy one in full.
