Default Concrete Tee's

Hola,

First off i want to say that I have been an avid disc golfer for about 5-6 years. I live here in Houston now and im still new to the DG community here. I play Moffit at least twice a week and absolutely love it. My only gripe with the course is that the tee boxes are absolutely terrible. Is there a reason there arent concrete tee's there now? Would the people that play that course be interested in looking into what it would take to build some? Im just a little curious right now. I think some new tee's would take that course from what it is right now to one of the best in Houston.

Welcome to the board, and we all wish for concrete here in Houston. For what ever the reason, historically, the Houston Parks Dept. has prevented that from happening, with excuses regarding mowers, etc. as the reasons for not allowing them.

We would be happy to raise the funds if it was approved. We are hopeful that with the new school going in right there, we may be able to get more improvements for the boxes.

Think positive thoughts! Things can and do happen.

Unfortunately you'll find that almost all of the courses in this area do NOT have concrete tees. The boxes at Moffitt are in worse shape than some others though....the asphalt stuff just doesn't work! There are a few people I've talked to that prefer grass tees (so you can change tees around), but I LOVE concrete pads & wish that all courses had them. Good luck getting the city or county to pony up the money & or do the work to put them in, though. It would take fundraising & then we would have to get permission from whatever parks department(s) to do them on our own...and it wouldn't surprise me if permission was not granted. The only courses with concrete tees in the Houston area would be Spring Valley, Kingwood, McDade (Conroe) and Oak Meadows (which, also unfortunately, is closed to the public!).

That is interesting to hear that the city/county doesnt particularly care for concrete tee's b/c of possibly running over them with mowers. I feel like this is a point that could be argued against and have the city convinced that it would still be safe to mow the grass and have concrete tees.

I also belive that through a little bit of work the money to undertake installing concrete tees could be collected through donations from the houston DG community. at most it would cost around $3000 for the supplies to install tees. with the amount of people and the community that seems to exist in Houston this amount of money is not that large. the work required to install them is something that is not too difficult as well.

It is really disappointing for you to imply that the DG community has allowed this to happen. For many, many years our community has tried illustrate the benefits of concrete..............it has always fallen on deaf ears. We have tried.

Moffitt is really beat up because it gets the most daily play. Much like Pease in Austin.

We have managed to keep soccer out of Moffitt. We almost lost the course to private organized leagues a few years back, so we are not inactive.

Hopefully in the near future this is going to change. When it does, I assure you our community will QUICKLY move to make it a reality.......before they change their minds again.

I wasn't trying to imply that nothing has been done or that nothing would be done. I am simply just trying to educate myself on the past dealings of the park an why there aren't any concrete tee pads. I'm just very interested in what it would take to get some. that sucks to hear that the city wanted to turn it into soccer fields. again I'm just trying to find our what the situation is and why I can do to help improve it.
