There is a distance challenge for the kids...... is there going to be a jr. division? If the answer is yes, you can count Conall and I in.

I've been tasked with making the tournament appeal to both regular disc golfers and to the community in Taylor Lake Village, so there's going to be a lot of family activities along with a full two-round tourney (so bring the kids!). A couple of the ideas for elementary and jr. high kids that I'm working on include:
  • A putting competition.
  • A distance competition on the baseball field.
  • An accuracy competition (CTP with a practice basket).
  • A 'ring of fire' contest.
  • A 3-hole 'family' course with holes about 150'-200' in length directly south of the pavilion (we'll also have sets of discs on hand for people to borrow).
High school age kids will be encouraged to play in the tourney.

Fur us disc golfers, what would y'all like to see? Keep in mind that any contests would have to be run before afternoon round (other than a CTP if no one hits an ace).

Chris,
I'm not really sure what kind of help you are receiving, but I am the president of the North Side Chain Gang. We are big advocates of JR. DISC GOLF. If you are interested, the club has decided that we can donate 2 discs for the event. If you would like to use these as prizes for JR.'s, let me know, and we will make the weight age appropriate.
Also, my son plays religiously, and we jump at the opportunity to get him the opportunity to play with other kids. We'll be in. Just need to know where to register, etc. Additionally, I will volunteer to come down early that morning to help you with any set up you may need, and volunteer to help with Jr. stuff if you need.
FIREFLY_60@HOTMAIL.COM is my email address. Send me details and a list of anything you still need, and I will gladly help. Thank you for the work you are putting into this event, and congratulations on the new course.

I haven't met him yet (still!), but when I do I want to give a big ol' double-fisted handshake to Steve Green for initiating this! I've been living in the Clear Lake area for over 20 years & didn't even know this park existed. It's so PERFECT for a course! When I played it yesterday, the feeling I got was that the course had been there for years. I know that's partly because a lot of new courses go in at new parks....where everything's so super sterile & new....young trees that won't make the course any good for 20 years or so. Maybe it's not as much of a challenge as the new course at Jack Brooks, but it's a great layout in a really nice "old" park. I played 1 thru 13 by myself...then some more people started showing up & we played the full 18...then a couple of us played the back nine again after that! The rain couldn't even scare us away, we were having so much fun! Thanks again to Steve (again, looking forward to shaking your hand!) and Chris MacGregor (who I've gotten to be friends with playing at Miramar) for making this happen....and thanks to Andi & Don & Jake for their input on the layout...and all the work that the Seabrook bunch did getting the sleeves & baskets in this past weekend while some of us were up in Leakey for Neal & Jen's wedding. I swear that Chuck & I would have been there to help if had been another weekend! Anyway...kudos, kudos, kudos you guys!!! The course rocks!!!

I've just posted more details on the Grand Opening Tournament to the TLVDGC.org website. We really want to make this event a family affair so bring the kids! We'll have age protected divisions for middle school and high school kids.

So what's the consensus? Is the course good? Or just another Houston course with a better setting?

Well IDK if that would be a good thing and I'm not going to go out there unless it seems like a fun course.

Save yourself the trip Matt. I liked the course, but I'm sure you'll find an infinite amount of things to pick it appart.

If you don't like Birdshot tourny's, I bet you wont like the event on the 7th.

But, if you'd like to see for yourself what everyone is talking about and play a fun course with your peers, we'd love to see you out there.
