why doesn't everyone who wants to run a forum just start one up, and let natural selection do its thing?

the rest of us will head out to the course and play some disc.

I don't have the expertise or claim to, but a one way only forum is not what we should strive for. Dictatorship should be over now Larry, let it go.
You don't have the expertise but you purport to tell someone that has been voluntarily doing this for the last 7-8 years this he should be doing it "some other way" ???

Hey...if you think that anything I'm doing is unfair, unjust, or detrimental to the club, then there certainly IS a forumn for lodging your complaints. The club doesn't pay for any of this website. It's own members provide it all for them and we have been doing that for years.

Loius? Has it really been that long since you've been to a club meeting that you've forgotten how this whole thing works? You know...like there are people that go to meetings and talk about stuff and then they take votes on stuff and what-not? Any of that sounding familiar to you? In fact...one time...I remember they were looking for someone to take over the website and I said "I will." And then they said something like "all in favor-of" and a bunch of people held up their hands and then they probably said something like all opposed? and there weren't any hands up. I'm pretty sure that is how I got to be appointed webmaster. It ain't quite as romantic as a Lady of the Lake holding a shiny sword up out the water at me, but I was hoping that some of it might ring a bell with you since I know that you used to come to a meeting once in a while.

Nez built a couple of really nice sites for us in the past and we successfully transferred the entire thing over to my machine and I was able to maintain it for the most part because a lot of the stuff was already on the main website. So I even paid to upgrade my website building software a couple of times so that me and Nez would have the same version and both be able to do it. Nez pays for the hosting service and I pay for the vBulletin software which has annual renewal licensing fees.

So let me see if I'm understanding you right. You have no skills in discussion board administrative matters, you aren't a current club member, you don't attend meetings or otherwise contribute to the month-to-month functioning of the club but you want to call me out for wanting to do the things I volunteer to do for club "in my own way?" Did I get that about right?

Thanks Louis! That's one of the best laughs I've had about this whole topic!

So let's try to keep this all in its proper perspective, eh? We are talking about a volunteer run sports club in a reasonably metropolitan area and the administration/design of the club's forum/discussion board, right? Yeah...this is exactly how I dreamed of growing my empire of eventual world domination. LoL...

No

I do this because I seek total and complete world domination Matchu. The restructure of this message board is just the first step. I'm a dictator, remember? I probably won't stop with just the restructuring either...I'm going to try to convert everyone to a new religion, take away their right to bear arms and I will be instituting a mandatory Novice division at every tournament too!

You'd better watch out...today it's the message board structure, tomorrow it'll be the world!

Larry, Larry, Larry! I represent the zombies for Larry for world dictator voting pool. Frankly, I think hindsight is myopic. Let me refresh your memories. There was a web site set up going way back when and it crashed. Everyone stepped up to offer to create a new one and Larry beat them up one at a time until they gave up. Ha! The reality is that we had to brow beat Larry, using guilt, to do this.

What is wrong with us. Cripes, Larry hates this job and does it fairly uncomplainingly. Cut him some slack. What is our goal? Is the set up as it is brutally hard to use? Does it crash? Does it lose our data? Does it advertise Depends to us? Does it spit on us or load viruses to our computers (not that Larry could stop such a thing if a determined hacker had at us).

Why are we so mad at Larry about this? Look, Larry and I have our issues too, but I'd be stupid not to recognize his contribution here, whether or not it gives me every perk I might want.

Larry, thanks.

Haven't some new folks stepped up to provide some relief?

I have noticed someone's faint imprint around here, and I don't think it is Larry.

I know we have folks who posses the required skills to bring our website up to snuff.

Sometimes, new eyes, typing fingers and toes are good for an endevor.

Good Luck to ALL THOSE who help to improve our website.
