Btw, I thought your state example was excellent. It made your point nicely. I might note though that I didn't see Guam or Puerto Rico in there. Could it be that those territories are viewed differently?

If you are arguing that each course is viewed exactly the same, or closely enough that it doesn't matter, then I agree, alphabetical by all means.

This has been an interesting discussion to watch for the past couple of days. After watching it for a while, it thought I would throw out a possible compromise.

Camp A wants the board to be focused on discussions. Thus, priority should be given to the most active threads that have discussion.

Camp B want information to be stored in a logical manner so that users looking for information can find it.

In order to highlight and give priority to the most discussed threads, I would suggest the following:

1) Add a "What members are talking about" section to the HFDS main website. This would be very similar to the one that DGCR has on their main homepage that highlights the most recent ten threads with a post.

2) Categorize the courses by 18 + holes and <18 holes by alphabetical order. This is based on the assumption that the 18+ courses generally have more discussion, and would be higher on the list.

By doing this, the users that want to see very quickly what is being discussed will be able to immediately see it on the main webpage, and the users who only like to see the discussion / information on their home course will be able to find it on a consistent basis very similar to the way they can find it now.

Just some 2 cents from a disinterested third party.

I will make additional inquiry with Matt about his livingroom, women's only course. He has not made a decision on the name for the course because I believe he is waiting to see how the message board is going to handle courses like his. If it is going to be alpha-betical, then I am going to suggest to him that he call it the "AAA". At first I was going to suggest to him that he call it "The D Cup", but I think he wants to try to have it's sub-forum listed first in the areas courses in hopes that he, . . . er I mean the course gets the most amount of play. If it is going to be organized based on popularity I have some ideas for some tournaments he can run like the "The Clothing Optional Spectacular" or the "Bring Your Aerobics Instructor Bisexual Girl-friend Invitational".

You have to sift through copious amounts of "OTHERS" before you stumble across Guam or Puerto Rico. How fast did you find Puerto Rico in that link vs. this one?

But seriously...

The PDGA has no hard standard on what the minimum number of baskets is to qualify as a "course"... at least to be listed in their directory. They decide that on a case-by-case basis. I think the same thing should be done for the HFDS listings.

There was recently a 2-hole course added to DGCR which sparked much debate on the topic of what the minimum should be.

I think factors other than just the number of holes need to be considered as well. IIRC C.J.'s back yard putt-putt course is up around 54 holes now, but I wouldn't list that one on here. Sorry C.J..
